(quote)(quote)Utawarerumono --> Shadow Warrior Chronicles

I say. What. The. Heck.(/quote)

What does "Utawarerumono" translate to? Or does it not translate because it's not a real word (but part of the story)?(/quote)

"Utawarerumono" translates to 'The One Being Sung' and yes, "Instant Teen (Just Add Nuts!)", looks like a really, really retarded ceral box (with calorie intake and such). I have heard that "Utawarerumono" being "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" was a mistake and that it should have been "Masked Warrior Stories" (or something to that effect).
I didn't like the change from "Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho" to "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" I feel a better translation would have been "Beyond the Clouds, Our Promised Place" but the real translation "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" was approved by Makoto Shinkai so that's not too bad... Turning "Karin" into "Chibi Vampires", on the other hand, was pretty stupid and they only did it so it wouldn't be confused with "Kamichama Karin" a different manga by Koge Donbo.

It's not an issue of confusion. In America's intellectual property laws, if a name is already used for a certain product by a certain individual or group, then that name is gone for good. Hence why Tales of Eternia (JP) was released as Tales of Destiny 2 (US PSX) and why Tales of Destiny 2 (JP PS2) never made it to the US at all. Eternia was a name used exclusively for He-Man's story so the company that held the license to He-Man was just being an ass about it.

Karin to Chibi Vampires might have the same issue as the Tales of Eternia issue since IP laws here are a lot stricter than the IP laws in Japan.

Utawarerumono to Shadow Warrior Chronicles, I don't know since I've yet to beat the game and finish the anime/manga so I can't really comment on that.

Otona ni Nuts to Instant Teen is somewhat understandable. They could've marketed it as Adulthood in a Nut, but that'd be verbose and cumbersome.

Ai Yori Aoshi with the 2nd title True Blue Love probably comes from the atmosphere that the story itself presents. I mean, the story focuses on a heartwarming co-habitation between a broken man and a girl who never gave up her love for him. Their reunion was pretty much what saved Hanabishi (Honjou) Kaoru so the secondary title is rather appropriate.

Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Bashou to The Place Promised in Our Early Days is probably another one of those where they took an overview of the theme and used it as the title.

What I absolutely hate most is Mahou Sensei Negima's changes. I didn't mind the Magister Negi Magi Negima or whatever. I absolutely despised the change from Thousand Master to SOUTHERN Master. I mean, what the bloody hell was Del Rey Books thinkingconfused It's Thousand Master for a very good reason, the guy can use a THOUSAND different spells. And since Negi himself is switching in and out between using different girls, the title Thousand Master has a hell of a lot more definitive meaning within the context of the story.

And UGH, Macross is NOT Robotech. I consider people who call Macross as Robotech to be idiots who should be taken out and shot. Robotech is a motley collection of 3 different stories that some broadcasting company decided to force a merging storyline between all 3. It failed. Everyone who remembers "Robotech" really only remembers Macross. The other 2 stories Mospeada and Southern Cross were pretty much abandoned and only recently revived through ADV's purchase and shameless advertising.

Ummm, that's actually because of translation errors and this was corrected in later volumes

Oh, they fixed it? I was so turned off by the first few volumes of Del Rey's Negima (up to the fight against Evangeline) that I stopped reading Negima in English and went back to waiting for Kinokuniya's Negima tankoubans.

Hmm, it seems that only volumes 3-4 had problems with the "Southern Master" issue. That translator was replaced and any newly made volumes of 3-4 have "Thousand Master." So if your volume 3 or 4 has "Southern Master," it's not one of the corrected versions.

Also, what is this "Kinokuniya" you speak of?

Kinokuniya - Japanese bookstore, stocks english and Japanese manga/anime as well as tankoubans. (phonebook).

Basically a bookstore that stocks almost everything.

Kinokuniya is a bookstore that sells everything related to drawing mangas to Japanese import mangas, DVDs, games, and anime. They also sell novels and some technical books in Japanese and recently their artbook selection has been... diminishing... I screwed up on not getting the Tales of Phantasia artbook. >_<

I'm pretty sure that they mentioned Thousand Master in volume 1 and that its translation was also screwed up. I'll check on it when I get home and read Negima again.

It'd suck royally if I have to buy another copy of the first few volumes just because they screwed up on the translation.

ADV has reverted back to calling it Utawarerumono.

Although I would have preferred "Underwater Ray Romano."

Still remains the worst to me. XD

But now the name changes aren't so bad, they rarely do it nowadays. Maybe certain terms should be left alone to not lose any of the mangas value, but they will never learn that. >__<
