Quote from Rah Tse
Naruto is the most overrated manga of our time. The best shounen, for me, has to be either Death Note or GTO.

-Rah

theres a difference b/w overrated and bad. its a great manga, but not the greatest manga/anime ever some ppl describe it as. its simply that and nothing more

One Piece

All the characters have their own flavor, and the story has consistently great arcs.

A lot of stuff is overrated, not just Naruto. But thats just something that the masses create, a hype.
All that aside, Naruto is pretty good for a shounen. It hooked enough people to get into anime or manga, even me. And I still have a soft spot for it. Of course it's not perfect or anything close to that, but seriously, who expects it to be is just a fool.

Hihi, fight fight!!!

Anyway, i always think its sort of annoying when somebody asks for a specific manga ( the best of, favorite, most influence ) and somepoeple just post a list without commenting.

Best of all time: Can't ok dragonball. Never liked it very much. Shonen is a pretty big group. I'll pass

Best currently is One Piece in my opinion. Not that it makes much sense, but its just really fun to read, has fun individuel drawing ( i loved the duck cavalary ) Hot chicks ( how anybody could prefer some panty flashing 15 year old to Robin or Nami keeps me up at night ) , and great characters. Sniper Island is in your Heart!!! Plus it gets a big plus for not getting boring after 400 chapters!!

I would like to mention Air Gear for great fun and absolutly no reality whatsoever, Bleach for Style ( love those extra pics they often include ) and GTO for being great fun, NOT having a plot about fighting and its political uncorrectness.

Last time I checked, Shanao Yoshitsune is being scanlated by Dragon Voice (DV) but their last release was sometime in the middle of last year... So far it's still in their current scanlation projects list. Does anyone know what's going on?

These manga are in my opinion the best shounen series I've read:
Bleach (but I agree that it's getting cheap now) , Berserk (it releases much of adrenaline just from reading), Death Note (for complex plot and interesting characters), Detective Conan (genius cases, humour and characters), Dragon Ball (trailblazer), Full Metal Alchemist (I just can't wait for next chapters), Hikaru no Go (who would have thought that manga about a game I know nothing about could be this interesting), Hunter X Hunter (great adventure, original ideas), Trigun/Trigun Maximum (great plot and characters, especially Wolfwood).

Gunnm/battle angel alita(best ever)
bleach(the fights are getting a little dbz and taking forever, but im still a fan)
naruto(the first part, not really a huge fan of this 3 years later part, theres no hinata cry )
Ichigo 100%(cliche'd plot and a lil eechi at times, but the only manga that made me scream at the computer over and over
Spoiler (highlight to view)
it shouldve been toujo!
)
midori no hibi

The lack of Flame of Recca in this topic makes me cry cry

Best. Shounen. Ever. Period.

Hunter x Hunter comes in at a close second though ^__^

EDIT: I am also quite shocked to not see Hajime no Ippo and Slam Dunk mentioned anywhere in this thread....

Well, hope you got lots of tissues then... Here's my favs list:

1. Midori no hibi (has my two favorite anime girls)
2. One Piece (most epic manga ever)
3. Full Metal Panic! (everything I could ever want from a male lead)
4. Yotsuba&! (that girl is happiness incarnate)
5. Kurozakuro (Love the art, everything is either all black or all white. Shame they canceled this at 7 volumes)

Well, the topic only asks for 2 manga titles, so I didn't put them in. But since you want to see them so much, these are the shounen mangas I rated as 10/10:

Ongoing
Claymore
Cross Game
Full Metal Alchemist
Hajime no Ippo

Complete
Great Teacher Onizuka
H2
Hikaru no Go
Salad Days
Slam Dunk

Well, I don't know if Yotsuba is shounen per say but it's pretty funny. I see that there are alot of Bleach, GTO, Naruto, One piece,etc.... They are all great and stuff, but I go for more of the other lesser known mangas like Pretty Face (it ended, why.....T_T), Rosario+Vampire, +Anima. These don't follow a storyline like naruto, bleach, and one piece but i think they are enjoyable to read.

Oh, my bad. Yotsuba is not shonen, for it has evolved beyond genre classification.

Rosario+Vampire is a rather good one, but they just don't release enough for me to get into it. I think the time investment necessary for the likes of One Piece and Bleach probably makes them easier to love.
