Lets say manga becomes up to date, would you buy it?

Poll
Manga is "up to date" with its releases in your country by a week or so from it actual release in japan and the price has declined to reasonable amount for a book, would you buy it rather than read it online?
Yes, I would buy it
Maybe, but it is a matter of price
Maybe, but it is a matter of when
Maybe, but it is a some other problem
No, because of some other reason

I wish manga was "up to date" here in Canada. It's a pain in the ass to order from overseas or wait for someone to stock Japanese copies. I don't usually buy English manga, there's something about the aesthetics irks me. Even if the manga is not "up to date" I would buy the manga regardless if I really like the manga. Gotta support my favourite artists afterall.

Quote from darklordkai
More or less it depends on the series.

There are some things i feel are worth owning and others that i dont :x.

Agreed. It feels nice to own manga that you really like. biggrin

I would....I've done it before that some manga I really want to read hasn't been updated in ages by scanlators and if I see that it's available in another language that I can make out I've bought them...
Since there is no English license to Honey Bitter or Kiss and Never Cry and I can't understand the kanji, I ordered the series from Italy...
It was expensive to do so, but I like the series enough to be worth the costs, and manga prices have been going up in the US anyway, so it's almost at the same price....
Same for some discontinued titles, Tokyopop discontinued Zig*Zag after 3 volumes, and in order to complete the series I had to import the remaining volumes from Singapore....
I'm waiting on the end of Hoshi wa Utau to see if it has a satisfying ending, I'm planning on importing the series from Singapore...
So yes if I like the series enough, I would buy it, with some exceptions...
Like Bleach, I like the series, but it's really long and I don't like the English edition since it dropped all the honorifics, etc, so unless I can get my hands on maybe the Mexican version which tends to be slimmer and has the honorifics intact, I might import that,
Or Ranam 1/2, I like the story, want the volumes, but don't like the fact that they are sold in their flipped format and w/ no honorifics, but if VIZ re-releases the series in the original format w/ revised editing, i'd buy it in a heartbeat.....

I would only buy them if i considered the manga good enough for a space on my bookshelf. The rest i can just read online...I would like to pay for it(like openmanga where you pay to read online) but im not old enough for a credit card, and then theres the question of whether or not they translate the series i want to read...

In the end, volume prices build up. I rather have this be a free hobby. However: if I read a series and love it under these conditions, I'd buy the series just to support the mangaka.

If I had to pay for all my manga I'd just find a new reading-based hobby to centralize on. (Yay libraries)

No. I don't like the thought that the manga-ka is still working on it...same as for online manga. I always wait until the whole thing is completed/completely scanned until I start reading, so there are no cliffhangers. laugh

Regardless of price and date, I would buy if it was actually sold in some of the stores around here. The only one I can find is in Wal-Mart and it's Naruto (which I don't like). I can't even find manga in the library (which is on the same block as my house). Besides the majority of manga that I read isn't even licensed in English.

Even if manga's not up to date, I still end up buying it.

Those of you in Canada should try buying from amazon.ca. Not sure how amazon.com works or its prices, though.

I just bought Berserk volumes 22-24 at roughly $10.50 to $12 + tax each (Normal prices in stores is $15 + tax minimum) along with some other books that were inexpensive. You buy for $25 of items that are eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping and it arrives within a week. Hell, mine arrived two days after I ordered. Extremely satisfied.

Some of the older stuff that's not as frequently found is more expensive, so you might be better off going to stores to find those volumes.

It's all a hobby for me. A free hobby is a good hobby. I wouldn't buy manga, even is it was banned on the internet. I don't have $12 to waste several times a month on something I'll read once. I don't care how good it is, I won't buy it. Bills are expensive in the winter. I wish I had all the extra cash you guys seem to have... Maybe if I were rich, then... no I still wouldn't. DLing them is so much easier and convenient. I'd quit reading manga altogether if I had to buy it.

If you talk about chapter wise: only if it isn't per magazine. Some series I'd definitely want to have, and I could care less for other series. If, per example I could get some sort of subscription to several series I'd really want to read, and pay for each manga alone I wouldn't mind. If it were per email or per mail wouldn't even matter to me.
I'm buying a lot of volumes though, the problem is, the series I really, really like, aren't being officially translated...

I believe if series were per chapter available I would definitely buy the longer ones. If it is >10 volumes I won't buy the volumes, but I believe I'd keep subscribed to chapters apart. You just don't read >10 volumes in one go. And that's a pity, because a manga from about 200 dollars on your bookshelves, it frustrates me if I only read it once.

If the English volumes were translated with no cutting, editing, or censoring plus a reduction in price, then I would for sure buy the volumes even if they weren't up to date. I also hate how publications here simply sit on a license and never bother to pick up the series.

But there is only one series I would really consider buying, and that would be Mysterious Girlfriend X.

NO
I need to be selective on what's manga to buy
Reason : High Price
So only a few manga i would consider worthy to spend my money.

I would buy it if it were the same as ebooks: cheaper & downloadable versions.
I don't like lots of stuff in my room, I very rarely buy actual paper books, so the same goes for manga. Pretty much the only reason for me to buy an actual volume is when I'm dying to read it and I can't find the e-version anywhere.
