I personally think Ezri is a very pretty name.

On another note, I'm sure nobody cares about my nick (Since it's not that original, but I'll say it anyway.
It came from a long time ago, apparently I have this weird habit of walking without making a noise. (Everybody always complains that I startled them, and asks me where did I pop out from). Eventually my friends started to joke about that and call me a ninja or that I actually just teleport behind them on purpose etc...
(I know it doesn't sound funny it wasn't really)

On the contrary! I think you have a very unique story.

thanks Manick smile

And this may sound dumb, but I wasn't complaining about the sonority of the name. But more about how it was found and the meaning behind it.
Anyway, I think I may have gone overboard a bit, and I'm sorry.

They say name define who the person was, is, and will be. What do you think?

I think it's a load of baloney. If it were true, then all you'd have to do to be a totally different person is change your name. Somehow I doubt it's that easy to change your personality... roll eyes

Maybe it's a cultural thing, but in the US many (if not most) baby names are just chosen for they way they sound & because the parents like the name, rather than being named after famous people or relatives. Of the 14 of us in my generation (me, sibilings, & cousins) two have "family names" and the rest are just random names the parents liked. Of the 11 in the next generation, I don't know of any that are named after someone.

To keep this on topic, my nick comes from when my boys were babies/toddlers. I was/am on an email list for parents of twins, and for a while a lot of people were asking "what's a healthy, high-protein, non-meat food for toddlers?" After suggesting tofu for the 52nd time (ok maybe not, but it FELT like 52 times!) I declared myself the TofuQueen and I've been using it ever since. It's short, easy to remember & type, and rarely already taken.

Thanks for all the replys to my ridiculously long post!

I never thought about serving my daughter tofu, but I'll pick some up tomorrow and see if she likes it, TofuQueen. ^_^

We do realize that she will probably be really pissed at us once she is old enough to know whom she was named for, but we'll deal. We just always liked the name, even though the character (Ezri Dax from DS9) was one of the weakest, crappiest characters in all of Star Trek's 35+ years. At least she won't have to be one of a dozen Jennifers in her grade like I did!

Ezri actually is biblical - Hebrew - and comes from the male name Ezra, which means strenghth. Ezri means helper which I think is very fitting since she'll be the oldest sister in the family. Our families just had really crappy names. Beryl, Beatrice, Loretta, Clarence, Orval - the bad names just go on and on - so we were not naming her after any of our ancestors.

I was cracking up when you said "Have you met my daughter, Enterprise?" That one is just too great. When my husband and I tell people that we got her name from Star Trek, and people give us weird looks, we just reply that it cold be worse. we could have named our kid Data or Worf. TNG kicks ass! Maybe we'll name our next baby Deanna or Lwoxanna. JK!

My new favorite name is Linalee from D.Gray-man...don't think that will go over too well with the hubby though... roll eyes

Names are important. They define who you are. You should choose a suitable name carefully.

I'll be damned before I allow my destiny to be affected by my name. You're only defined by something so trivial if you refuse to break free of it. And no, I'm not talking about changing your name either.

And at the risk of turning this thread political, just look at Barack Obama.

No I don't think they definte who you are, but they do have an effect on your life.
I mean if a girl is named Bob, you know that she is going to suffer from it. But what happens latter depends on her, if she is strong she could manage with it and even gets the best of it. Or she could become a sl*t because she wanted to prove so bad how feminine she was. (Of course this is a stupid example but you get the theory)

And heardtheowl, I see that you actually researched the name. Then I have to appologize again. (It's more the fact that you got if from StarTrek that annoyed me more than anything else... I have incridible hate for that ... "thing")
