Hope I'm not sounding too creepy here but to me there is nothing cuter than spiders and bugs. Just like itty bitty little puppies with extra legs and an exoskeleton! When I see them during the warmer months I just pick them up and deposit them outside. When it gets colder I move them into my basement so they don't freeze outside. Never had any trouble with it. I did this with wasps and bees too and have never been stung.

I remember back when I was in high school I used to keep a jar with little holes in the lid during winter so when a student in my class would panic over something like a centipede I would politely ask the teacher for permission to go to my locker then come back and scoop it into the jar. I'd then name it and take it to the rest of my classes for the day before taking it home on the bus with me and letting it out in the basement. I even used to talk to them during my study hall if I was lonely. I wasn't exactly the most popular kid in school, but I had my bug friends, so I was okay.

Someday when I'm not living with my aunt and uncle I'm going to get a tarantula. So cute~ <3

Ah, thank you! I think you're the first person that has seen my interest in insects as cute. Well, if it was the summer I would have just put them outside. But I went to high school in Wisconsin, which is close to the Canadian border so the winters get cold and the bugs outside all die off. If I just dumped it outside it would die, so I put them in the basement to keep them warm. Plus we have an unfinished basement so it was always moist down there and out of the way so they wouldn't accidentally get crushed by the family going about their business.

That makes it sound like the warmer seaons would be easier but they were harder when it came to the creepy crawlies. On rainy days I would walk to school so I could pick up all the worms on the sidewalk so they wouldn't get stepped on or dry when the sun came out. It made me late for school all the time since middle school. When people asked me what I was doing I told them I was getting bait for fishing, but secretly I took them all home and put them in the garden.

I've had a life long love for little critters, I just don't understand why people kill them? It's so sad that people crush spiders and flies, especially when they admire butterflies. There really isn't a difference, it's feels like they are judging them on their appearance alone, deciding what gets to live and what they will kill by what is prettier. I always felt I could empathize with them because of it, I mean I'm certainly no social butterfly, my hair is always messy, my breasts are lopsided, I've got dull grey eyes, and I'm pokey around the middle. I know that people, especially teenagers, judge on looks often, so I always felt some kind of odd comradery with my little insect friends, they made me feel comfortable. I was really just returning the favour.

...I agree. Nothing deserves to die. Bugs are living things, and no one has the right to take the life of another... Especially over something like looks... People who think like that just make me sick...

@Sheepy: ah! still so cute! bigrazz
You would pick up all the worms!? O__O
That's a lot of worms.
btw, do you fish?

I know I shouldn't kill them but I kinda fear them. >.<
I feeling like they'll attack me in my sleep.

I was watching tv today and suddenly spider came down from teh ceiling on a web right in front of my face. I freaked out and got my brother to kill it.
now I feel kinda bad, listening to you. >.<

Ah, I'm glad to see that some one else feels like I do about insects Rob. I always wondered if I was the only one.

Ah, I used to fish when I was very little until I realized that the hook hurt the fish. After that I used to just grow corn in the garden in the yard, and pick off little kernels and feed them to the carp in the creek behind our house. But then the creek got so polluted everything died off. I can't really bring myself to eat fish any more though, it's odd. Perhaps because my favourite pet when I was little was my fish?

Also, don't feel bad. I'm the one with the strange viewpoint. It is a very natural thing to fear spiders, and a very natural thing to wish to destroy what you fear.

It's funny you say that, I'm actually not. I have an understanding with things. I will eat them if I need nourishment, like beef or chicken. Or if it is a mercy killing, like a very sick animal. I used to watch that when I worked at the local shelter.

But in return I will care for all living things within my power and will not harm them, and if worst came to worst if something needs to eat me, I will not object.

I can't even bring myself to use antibacterial wipes because they kill so many bacteria that are harmless. That's an entirely different kind of bug though.

Speachless

I know I'm going to come off as the villain here, but yes I kill most bugs if I find them in my place of residence (or put them outside), and yes if something tries to eat me I'm gonna use every ounce of strength I have and muscle in my body to object, it would do the same thing in my position. I don't really see whats wrong with killing bugs if they are invading your living space, until you have had a cockroach infestation, or another similar and serious problem caused by bugs in your home you might not get the fact that these things aren't harmless. Sure that fruit fly isn't gonna cause a problem for you, but what about ants that can get into your food? If I see this stuff outside hell thats where it should be anyways ain't my job to kill it, thats its space, but ya my house/residence is a different matter.

Not that I'm trying to rain on u pplz parade, cause I know for almost certain that there is some validity in what you say, but seriously that not objecting to the being eaten thing just confuses me confused

Hmm, idk, even if nothing deserves to die, there still is the whole, natural selection thing, and the whole this bug creeps me the fuck out. I'm sorry, although I can see where you're coming from, I can't help but kill gross things that invade my house. Especially those stink bugs (look on first page of the thread to see the pic), although they do deserve to die, they're an alien and invasive species to my area.

Quite a refreshing point of view, too bad it's way too idealistic for this world. Natural selection will pick off those insects that you've saved, and the "if worst came to worst if something needs to eat me, I will not object." I'm sorry but that's just crap. All humans (all organisms in fact) are born with the instinct for survival. So in the face of a hungry lion, I bet you'd run your ass off screaming all the way, without a single thought than to escape the jaws of that lion. I don't want to sound mean or anything, but there's no way you'd calmly let a tiger or a shark take a chunk out of you, instinct will take over and your id will override your superego.

Actually I do have bug troubles. I currently have an infestation of carpet beetles. They are eating holes in everything, well their larva is. My clothes all have little holes in them, my books have holes, even my bed cloths. But I still just can't kill something that just wants to eat and live. I know I'm being unreasonable, I really do. I just can't change how I feel like that.

Though if you are talking about invasive species, humans are the prime candidate.

Also, my worst fear in the world is dead bugs. They terrify me, more than guns, more than ghosts, more than anything. It's an irrational fear and I've always wondered what caused it to form. I'm even okay with dead people, I've been to my fair share of open casket funerals, but bugs... it's horrifying.

Edit:
Ah, you know the fight or flight mechanism? I don't fight, I don't flee, I pass out, very awkward in public. There isn't much use in resiting something like a lion anyway, best to go peacefully. As for things taking a chunk out of me, they aren't very menacing but my turtle does that when he gets nervous. But I know he's just stressed out, I can't punish him for not having higher reasoning.
