Death Note - I know it has been mentioned, but I can't look at it as a shounen it's a seinen in my eyes
Claymore - Too grotesqe for the sounen genre imo
Kuroshitsuji - This manga is a stange mix of various genres, tho I feel it belongs in the seinen genre.
Chrono Crusade - This manga has some themes and graphic violence that makes me think it's more seinen than shounen.

Franken Fran - Nudity, Gore, and just plain messed up.
Deadman Wonderland - A bit too excessively violent for a Shounen
Seitokai Yakuindomo - The things they say...

On that note, K-On! should be a shounen

Hunter x Hunter for me, I was pretty shocked how
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Killua pulled out that guy's heart
whithin the first few volumes. I think it if were seinen, Togashi would have been able to develop it much better than in Weekly Shounen Jump.

I seriously miss it! no

Definitely Death Note. At least the anime, I know they made it feel a little more darker than the manga. The manga could be argued (like the above poster did) that it feels too much like Shonen.

Yotsubato! - Possibly seinen? But definitely not shounen.

(I thought the database used to list it as seinen - when did they change it?)

By posting these titles you people disagree with the publishers decision to publish them instead of sending them to a seinen magazine. Given how shounen have a larger audience than seinen i don't see how you can justify saying it was wrong to make something like death note shounen...

Basically anything that appeals to younger people as well as older should probably be shounen. The new law in tokyo might change what is published as seinen or shounen though.

it´s not like that. we just say which manga should be seinen judging by it´s content. and when i imagine death note in the weekly shounen jump, which is also read by elementary students i creep out.

In death note was in weekly shounen jump... Clearly japanese society sees differently on what is allowed to be published for kids than your own (or at least the publishers there have different views than you). I also fail to see what is so horrible with death note, there is no gory deaths and it is not like it features less death than for example naruto, no sexual content either.

homocide, god complex, dark ambience, human sacrifice, good people get killed by the main.
light really isn´t a shounen character
many countries give death note an usk 16+

and the reason why light does it... is boredom

Most of the things mentioned in this thread strike me as appropriate for shounen - it's nothing that a 14 year old couldn't handle.

I agree with NHK - that seems firmly aimed at the seinen demographic seeing that it's about the problems that come with being 20-something. Aiming that at boys in school seems pointless seeing that they don't have any of those concerns.

I'm surprised that Blood Alone is shounen. It's something I'd expect to be appreciated more by older audiences, but maybe I'm out of touch with what teenagers like. Or maybe that's the reason it got cancelled.
(and now that I look, I see it's been picked up by a seinen magazine, so all is well in the world. Perhaps someone should add it to the genre tags?)

Gunslinger Girl also strikes me as something that would work better for a seinen audience, but I guess it might have broad appeal given the violence.

Bleach a seinen? I think it's one of those base shounen like Naruto and Once Piece that you use to compare with other shounen. In my opinion, there's no way Bleach could be a seinen.
