I've had soft contacts for 22 years now (yeah...I'm old...) and never had a problem. Follow the basic rules for taking them out, cleaning them, & replacing them (this will vary by type of lens) and you should be fine. biggrin

Ironically, I am 22.

Perhaps we should all start calling you Onee-chan? biggrin

Although, if I did, my real Onee-chan might get angry, and she scares me when shes angry.

Sorry :/ It never said what kind of Random Questions (just no 18+ stupid questions - only "relevant and that you've been wondering about")... :/ cry and that ^ kind of makes me feel even worse for asking 'em.. :/

.. but, I'm going to stop asking my (most likely/seems like) stupid questions now.. cause I'm probably annoying as hell :/ Sorry~

It wasn't annoying at all.. You kept this thread alive and busy.. bigrazz And your questions are random questions that you've always wondered about, and now have an answer to, I hope..

Hmm, seems there a lot pros for contacts.. And I've also been planning when I'm old enough to treat my eyes(I thought it was with a laser or something) so that you don't need glasses or contacts.. I've heard that you should be 21 or above to do the 'operation'.. So does anyone know more about this subject.. confused

One thing I have been wondering is how do you make hyperlinks in your post. For example I have seen people write the name of a manga and have that word link to the info page on it. Do you do it like this? Pluto

Edit: I noticed that you can do [m] while I was typing this so I guess I figured it out myself.

It's not about the age. They usually wait for the problems to stabilize ( I can't get an operation cause my eyes are getting bad really fast )

Go see a doc, doc.

My friend had it done. Her eyesight is perfect now, no need for glasses anymore.
My grandma ( 82 years old !! ) same. Her eyesight is a lot better than mine. Done in the best clinic in our country, huh...

Laser operations are quite popular.

they are scary! Your eyes are open when they do it eek you know how it works, right? They cut off the upper layer of your eye, and then let it grow back... and it should be 20/20 vision, because it's a new layer. (I thought they just "zap your eyes"... because "laser"!!)

Anyway, my friend's piano teacher did it. And at night, she still feels that her eyes are bleeding? Like.. she can feel something inside o_O what?

My doctor also told me to do it, and I can't until I'm 21 too. My vision isn't stable yet. I don't find contacts annoying T_T I'll stick with them..... and they're expensive anyway!

One of my roomies did.. "best dang (he used a different word :/) decision" he's ever made. He sees perfectly now.. no glasses, no contants - perfect vision. He recommends it to everyone. And now.. I think he said, they don't even make any type of incision (or something) so recovery is faster now? Or something like that :/ Though, I don't know if you have to be a certain age though.. no idea bout that..

I'd LOVE to have it done, but it's too expensive. no As far as I know it's as others have said, your eyes need to be stable for a while - no point in having the surgery & then having your eyes go bad again right away - and 21 may be a "usual age" for eyes to stabilize.

And, I have thought of one bad thing about contacts, if I cry with mine in they get kind of...gunked up?? I can still see ok, they just don't feel as comfortable, but after a quick cleaning they're fine again.

Wouldn't bother me if you did, but I couldn't promise to remember to answer to it. laugh

Eyesight usually worsens rapidly in the age of adolescence, so 21 is basically around the age where most people are done development, hence the age the eyes are said to stabilize. Of course, this age may vary from person to person.

It is also important to note that the worse your eyesight is, the higher the chances of success. If your myopia isn't very significant, it's best not to get an operation. If you're like 400 something, then that would probably work just fine. There have been many stories of success and failures, so it's obvious that it works, but there are some risks. If you're going to get it done, it's probably best to find a doctor who has a very good record. Usually, even if it somehow goes wrong, they can redo it a few weeks later.

Generally, it is best to do laser eye surgery one eye at a time. The common process, known as LASIK involves making an incision in the eye/cutting a small layer open and using the laser to reform the lens in your eye. Afterwards, they put the layer back and leave it for a few days to heal. Then, the next eye is done. For this one, because of the incision step, it is very important that you get a good surgeon.

Not everyone is suited to get laser eye surgery. Those who heal slowly, or those with certain medical conditions such as diabetes could actually have their eyes become worse or become blind from the operation.

Of course, if you can get it done safely, then the advantages are really great, such as the obvious ones where you don't need to wear glasses or contacts. That, and when you wear glasses/contacts, only the vision for the middle part of your eye is corrected. With laser eye surgery, the sides also become nice and clear.

I agree with the rest, but this bit is wrong. With my contacts, I have a full field of (corrected) vision, just as if I had great eyesight to begin with. biggrin Which is one of the reasons I like contacts soooo much better than glasses!! (My eyes are 20/425, btw, so the surgery would probably have great results. Too bad it's so expensive.)

Actually, laser eye surgery only works for nearsightedness.

Not sure if this was directed at me, or just general info, but 20/425 is quite nearsighted. :^/

Just a quick random stupid question.

What exactly does j/k mean? I get--well, okay, I'm pretty sure--that it's some form of laughing or exclamation of amusement but I can't figure out what.
