If this helps the economic crisis then I'm Jesus Christ.

CDs are already dead and DVDs are going to be quick to follow. The greedy bastards are just trying to milk them dry before they are forced to use their brains and fork over the cash to modernize.

The costs of arrests, litigation and the chill this is sending into the tech sector will benefit no one except the lawyers. The entertainment industry is less popular than the congressmen that they bought and businesses leasing servers and bandwidth to the file lockers are going to see a hit that could very well capsize them. People will move on to alternative ways to pirate due to their resentment, whether it is streaming, private servers, p2p, etc. while hackers will just step up their attacks on said companies, undermining security. Some jerkass will try to another nail in net neutrality's coffin, claiming it to be the solution and more attacks will occur until the damn entertainment industry finally transitions fully into the web or die.

With a huge mass of people the entertainment industry can be killed easily. They must only refuse to buy the stuff they sell.
When the next movie comes out, which is highly anticipated, costed a huge amount of cash to produce, advertise, etc. Then the huge mass refuses to go to see the movie, that's a huge blow for the buisness. Honestly i can live without US movies, but they can't live without our money. After 5-10 times they gonna cry. But this "movement" must be well advertised to join a huge amount of people and the causes must be clearly stated. When they start to lose their money, they gonna wake up from their dream.
And another thing is with the selling buying blank CD's, DVD's. I live in Hungary and i don't know how it works in other countries, but we have here a tax, so called Artisjus, even if i buy a blank CD or DVD i pay this tax to the entertainment industry. It dosent matter that i store my personal photos on them, i pay the tax to them.

Sort of related but not exactly but could ppl who read manga on those online readers get in trouble if they decided to go after it the way they did megaupload? Sorry if this is a dumb question... confused

I'm thinking no and am fairly certain in it, but it raises a good point.

First of all manga, anime and other Asian media has little to nothing to do with the American entertainment industry... As long as Japan is not joining the fray, or the US takes it upon itself to enforce copyrights from other countries (not going to happen anytime soon) we're safe.
Secondly, is this is where my knowledge of laws is a bit insufficient, visiting publicly accessible websites is not "illegal". If youtube, or any other video streaming site, were to host a pirated movie, would me watching it be illegal? I think not. The responsibility lies with the host... Yes, when visiting a site you download the content (otherwise you can't see it), but this is different from actual downloading (streaming vs. downloading).
If I were to go to a (public/free) art gallery which shows pictures, with i.e. inverted colours, of (famous) works of art made without permission of the original artist, how would that make me a criminal?

And lastly, most of the manga you read probably isn't licensed in English, and the fan translation groups are not outright "pirating" manga. They make no money off it and they change/add much content, so it's more a derivative work.
It might not be "good", but it's not really "bad" either.

True. I watched a guy die on youtube(video taken down immediately after) and never got any retaliation of anyy kind.... never even checked if I had ripped the stream. And as far aas I know its illegal to watch snuff films so if I got away with that on youtube of all places, you can probably get away with reading manga.
