givining so much importance to the whole pressure pad thing is affecting the project badly imho. as in every other motorized vehicle, a throttle should be used, either a switch or a motorcycle like one.
just bringing up a couple of things more:
brakes: noone has yet talked about this, while it should be an important thing. the only suggestion i found in this post is a traditional rollerblade brake, but using that at 60kmh would most likely break someting in the at or the user. so we have either to build one around the wheel (something like a bike's one) or believe in some kind of engine braking, if the engine can take the strain.
gears: almost everything that moves over 25kmh has gears. i don't think that there is a motor that can give us the power to move a person from 0 to 30 and then keep him accelerating over that speed. so either the skater accelerate by himself at that speed and then turn on the engine, or we have to put two kind of motors, or two or more gears
if i find some time today i'll do some rough calculation about the power needed to speed a person to 60kmh including ground and air friction. see what i can get.

really? then i'm counting on you on the calculations.
thanks before hand.
here. i'm putting the link to the schematics of AT here so maybe someone can solved it. but i'll admit it that it doesnt help much.i put it in myspace anyway coz' i don't know any other site.

well i've put something togethere with my high school physic knowledge and extensive use of google and wiki
forgettin about the starting the motion (you cand do that by yourself) once you reach 20 or 30 kmh you'll start the engines. from there you'll need a costant 0.93cv(hp) just to counter the ground friction (rubber on asphalt).
than there is the matter of the air drag. aiming to a max speed of 60kmh. the air drag square when the speed double, we have to worry mor or less just of the drag at top speed, the excess power will just bring us there faster. anyway at 60kmh you'll need about 4.25hp.
i don't trust my skill too much and these are rough projections, but according to my numbers you'll need around 5 or so hp, and the engine that you proposed gives out around 0.3 of em <_<
please someone with better understanding of this correct me
anyway here is the math
air drag
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_drag
friction F=C*N
N=your weight F the force you'll need in Newton (1N=1Wm/s 736W=1HP)
C=friction coefficient
http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Tribology/co_of_frict. htm

i'm sucks at physics, but i'll just ask my friend to translate that for me.
thanks for the calculation.
err.. can you tell me wether the calculations you make heading towards positive or negative?

toward negative. it means you'll need about 15 motors to keep someone moving, so i'd say you should put 10 motors or so on each shoes. that would be troublesome. plus there is still the problem about gears and brakes.oh and the whole let's find enough power to keep away the evil inertia from 70kg of skater. i don't think that bateeries are gonna suffice. something more along hidrogen cells, but i wouldn't carry around those on me. one small little leak and they don't even need to dig the hole to bury you.
*edit*
i've found this battery
http://www.everspring.net/txt/product-socl2-ER26500.htm
one of these should power the thing for around 30sec (theorethically, the rel time should be at least 30% shorter), so for a 10 min run you should get 20 of em. each battery weight 50g so you'd be carrying another kg or so. that should impact about the 1.5% either of the speed or the durability.
i don't even wanna know how much these battery cost.
* edit again *
more calc
if you want to run around with standard AA battery a 10min run require 138 batteries XD. and i realized just now that all the hypotesis i've been doing are with a 100% efficient engine -.-''

i suggest a type of bicycle brakes as the brakes.

seen the specs of the little engine you'll need at least 16 of em, and you can surely double the number of batteries required.
lol, you'll need a backpack just for the 280 batteries
btw we really need some schematic, because i don't really get how you think to host the suspension, the brake and the motor all into a tiny little wheel

im amazed..... how stupid can u get? pressure sensitive control?... just think about it! thats first of nearly impossible... the pressure increases in case of fast turning, in ramps, little gups and jumps!... think about rolling down a skateboard ramp, when you are at the point where you start facing forward ---- instead of downward? yeah you apply pressure because there is downforce... so conclusion? fairly impossible, aint it?
And then you guys start mocking the guy who made a prototype out of his hockeyinlines? u guys havent made anything yet so dont start talking about other who atleast made something...
And you guys are trying to make a thing out of a manga? with no compromises? of course it wont work just by copying the AT from the manga... or just by looking at the pictures in the manga. Next i see is talk about making regalia and skating on top of water and skating in the AIR ?? give me a break... im already embarrased reading this as a another human. I wouldnt be suprised if you think you directly could do those unbelivable jumps as they do in the manga.
With todays small engines you probably wont get enough speed to catch up to a normal inline rider, nether will the fuel or batteries last long enough. And if you dont add in a clutch you guys will ruin the motor every downhill(it will over-rev and ether overheat or just break) saying this because you guys havent even mentioned a BREAK YET!!!. And i come to most fun part in this whole thread!
"I want to feel what ikki felt." ööhhhhhh..... he's a character from a manga ;)
"wings at your feet" ööööööööhhhh hhhhhhhhh....... what are you imagening? flying?
this pretty much sums up all this ridicious things on this thread...
thanks for reading LOVE U ALL... best laugh i had in awhile

all of my life i felt only bored. i lose my interest in things very quickly. but then i got my bikes.when at high speed i finally felt the adrenaline rush and excitement i've been searching for. but still i have to ride a bike. but when i saw air gear, i want to feel what ikki felt. wings at your feet. i want to make this real.

oh shut up! do you enjoy dissing people dreams. And i perfectly understand ho lightening feels. the rush of air against your face at high speeds is one of the greatest feeling ever. And its not like skates that reach 60kmph can never be made it not like he's trying to make a flying skateboard like the ones in eureka. in the end my friends and i could only make a couple of souped up skate boards that could move gasoline powered.

i said that the pressure control think was stupid, it's putting the whole project in a bad light <_<. still as you can see we offered a better solution a switch regolated throttle

please don't generalize. don't troll either.

if i did that i could retire at 20 and live off royalties

pretty much my contribution to this argument has been saying what will break and when. btw thanks for the over-rev thing, it's been bugging me for a while and i didn't know how to word it. i think a device to avoid that should be put in the gearshift. at least in my bike is there <_< but will it fit in an at? stupid miniaturization

WTF? who's this guy?
Hey junki Digimon was from anime, and even PETs from Megaman Battlenetwork. People like you shoot down other's dreams and yet when it does get invented, you would use it. For example, the computer, no, the internet. People like YOU were the ones who would've had said "öööööööö hhhh theres no way you can socialize, have fun, educate, make money, by not leaving home!" -_- seriously. An I didn't really diss the dude's "AT", though it was pretty obvious that it went from a cool looking blades into an unsafe looking "AT".
P.S ööööööööhhhh gtfo -_-
