I don't believe in rating things by number scale. My only criteria for rating something is that I liked it and I believe other people should read it, or I didn't like it and I wouldn't recommend others reading it. So, as a result, I only rate things as a 10, to recommend others read something, or 1, to recommend others avoid things at all cost. However, it should be noted that I haven't rated ANYTHING AT ALL in a very long time, and thus the last time I rated something I hadn't yet come to my current conclusion.

Besides, overall I'd prefer a system of recommends versus avoid at all costs, since unless I read the comments for a series, I won't be able to interpret what people mean when they give something a 6, or a 4. And I certainly won't know if whoever made such a rating liked it, or whether they think it's worth a read... And without a unified system for the meanings of all these numbers that takes into account every possible criteria for judging a series, it's not like these numbers mean much anyways. At least with a vote of one or ten, I know whether people liked the manga or not.

Not only that... people usualy spoil most of the stuff when trying to "comment" it.
And with the READ / Dont Read it system u should be able to "CALC" mid stuff like 20 said read it 5 said dont... the end should be like a 80% gauge read it.

I am very picky with my voting. Very rarely do I give a manga a 1 or a 10, unless it summons a lot of emotion out of me (being positive or negative). ...It is like using the words love and hate - you don't want to abuse them or else they lose meaning. They are top favourites and least favourites, so they represent my taste rather accurately.

To answer you question, I would have to despise a series to give it a 1; that includes bad art and plot, or other elements that may affect my judgment (like if there is something offensive or ridiculously unrealistic). If a manga has something good going for them, I'll maybe give it a 2 or higher. A series can redeem or lose points from that position.

That being said, I would not likely recommend manga listed below 5 on my chart, unless it really suited what a person was looking for.

From the mangas I've read so far, I don't remember ever giving a 1 or a 10. Mainly because I believe that there will always be a manga that in my opinion, would deserve a 1 or a 10, I've just never read it yet. Plus, I like giving .1, .2, etc. So it would be hard for me to give a flat number. laugh
The closest score to a ten that I've given would probably a 9.8 or something, closest to a 1, well, I don't have one yet. xD

I give 10 to those stories, that touched me deeply or were really entertaining, and which i want to reread someday.
9 for those that were a little bit less great but still very good and worth rereading.
8 for those that i liked, but i'd probably won't reread them
7 for average stories which were boring and cliched
6-3 for a "crap" ^^ or for those mangas which imho are cliche or contain bad ideas.
I often don't give any rating to mangas, which were not my cup of tea, but might be good for other readers.
I'm not sure that my rating system is steady though, 'cause my value system has been changing since i rated my first manga ^^; Well, sometimes i look through my list and change rating here and there shy

I almost never rate a manga less than an 7.5 (1-2 exceptions) and rarely under a 8.5 because if I don't like a manga that much I'll stop reading it, and then because I stopped reading it, I don't know it well enough to rate it. Nor would I care enough about it to rate it. So I have never rated a manga a 1.

Out of the 600+ manga's I've tried, I've only ever rated around 25 a 10. These are the ones that I love with all my heart. Maybe another 20-30 have been rated 9.5 or above though.

IMO, The Rating of "1", It could be the worst thing I ever read. In which it would a have very bad quality in comes to art (sorry, I'm picky in comes to this. I understand that its not easy to draw those so "beautiful to the eyes" characters eek I also tried...) besides that, it could be the story that has no sense at all... wasted your time... It sure be very boring if you are reading a manga that doesn't suit your taste, right? I haven't or never rated any 1's, I either dropped or removed it laugh So far, my lowest rated could be around "5"....

As for Rating "10", that would be if everything blends well the plot and characters (bishies!!), especially the content that is so interesting to read. The one which you would say "Worthy of my Time" in reading it eyes (I could be biased). For short on the rate of "10"... it is wherein you get addicted to it and never gonna let it go until the very end. laugh sometimes I rate it as 9, maybe because it is lacking with something... cry

I've never really given the rating of 1, but if I do, I imagine it would be something completely rubbish and unreadable, not even worth a glance at. Something like that.

The rating of 10? At first it means my very favourites but now it means a flawlessly excellently increadibly perfect manga that hits me right at the very center of heart and has precious value behind it. There's no manga like that at the moment. So the highest is 9.9.

I rate series so I can come back and see which series I should reread when bored or to give suggestions to people looking for new stuff. So while I give out 10s, I rarely do that since it'd make my list meaningless if everything got a perfect score. A 10 is reserved for my favorites among favorites. I also only rate things that I completed or formally dropped, so I rarely give out low scores. I have yet to give out a 1 either, since I don't start series that don't interest me in some way.

I'm always rate the manga because I think maybe it'll help people to know the series if they're think rating is important... like me^^.

I never give any manga rating a "1". Because I'm always appreciate a manga not only in plot, but in art as well. So usually, even if I hate hate hateee the manga, still I'm appreciate the art, so it's 5 (it can be a bit higher or a bit below). If I seeing someone giving a 1, I think that's definetly because she/he so much disappointed and hate the series.

Usually, I'm giving rating because of my own like-lovable-meter. biggrin
10 is perfect for me-- I really adore this (even if some people don't like it, or people thinks it's a very common story or etc) and of course I'll definetly collect this!! I think with a 10, people will notice this and maybe more people will read and like it. Because I'll very glad if someone could love the manga that I love as well... and support the mangaka by buying the physical book!
9,5 is perfect but!!! I want more--!! biggrin When giving 9,5, I feels like saying: this is a great manga! But will become moaaarr greater if only the manga continue^^

my lowest rating till now is 5.

I don't really rare giving a high rating for a manga, since I can read any manga in any genre and I think I don't really picky^^.

I like to use the rating system myanimelist.net has. It's quite useful and, I think, accurate as well. It does not only have the numbers to rate each anime/manga/LN, but what you may think those ratings mean. For example, it says that 10 is a masterpiece so naturally not everything should take a 10. 9 would be great, many things deserve it, but not everything. 8 is very good, 7 good, 6 fine, 5 average, etc.

It really helps to organize your lists and if everyone follows that route, you can easily tell if they consider it good, very good, great, etc. Some people don't follow it and prefer a rating system from 1 to 5, but it tends to be quite confusing, if you ask me.

I typically only rate 8-10, using an academic scale, so is it really worth 80%, 90% 100%? Is it really A-, A, A+? I looked at plot and animation mainly, but will also look at how I like the characters.

The reason why I only give 8-10 is because any manga or series that is worse than that isn't worth my time rating. I don't normally rate less than that because I don't bother wasting my time on it. Series that are less than 8 for me barely occupy my thoughts and only serve to entertain for a little bit before moving on. It is only the really good series that I enjoy that I reread and will rate.

I try not to look at ratings. There's also people that force 1s or 10s on things because of genres or etc. I think I may have been guilty of low-rating some random ecchis long ago.

10-7s are series i actually bother to follow. Masterpieces to a B-.
6s may have redeeming qualities but i usual don´t bother. Comparable to the grade C.
5-4s aren´t worth anyone’s time but still not "bad".
3-1s are truly "bad" to "Hell on Earth".

I always explore the whole scale.
