I hate it when the seme is huge and the uke has the body of a five year old. Oh the most annoying cliche is when the seme is having sex with a guy but also has the nerve to say "I'm straight but he gives off a special smell or aura about himself(uke). It's like are you gay or straight! "Rape"(I don't even want to use that word) came up a lot but the thing is ViewFinder involved "rape" and I can bet a lot of yaoi fans love ViewFinder and other similar types of yaoi mangas. I know I did! I think that in the yaoi world, people(some people excluded) don't see "rape" as serious because it's supposed to be fantasy, a type of getaway from real life. Now I am not for rape or anything, but I just think it's a preference. Some people enjoy S&M and hard yaoi that involves force If people didn't like it, then yaoi authors wouldn't put so much of it in their mangas.

Or! When being rimmed, the uke cries, "No, it's dirty!" and the seme says something smutty in reply.

Uke has embarrassing confession and the seme usually smiles and says, "You're so cute," which used to be a "kya!" moment for me but got pretty dull after fifty or so times I came across it.

I'm sick and tired of this one aspect in BL manga. It's not sexual as explicit like most of you guys have posted.

But I'm so fed up with one of the guys (preferably the uke) catches his partner with another woman, runs away in tears, leaving the seme to go after them... who confirms that, "she's my sister!"

It's so stupid, and ticks me off anytime it happens. Especially when it's so obvious.

The cliches that really bothers me is REALLY girlie guys, like the guys that seriously look like girls with big round eyes and feminine features, or when there supposed to be older but look like there 10 :\ *shudders* and pointless sex, not saying that that can't be sexy at times ;p Sometimes if the story is good or the art kinda fits I can deal with girlie guys but it definitely turns me off from most yaoi, heck any manga in general. Oh and I don't so much like the uke's dressing up in girls clothing. Like if they're gay... wouldn't it make more sense if they were turned on by sexy man underwear or something? I understand maybe for a fetish/ roleplay situation... but still :S

I feel like throwing this in here, I suggest reading Living for Tomorrow. (Bokutachi wa Asu ni Mukatte Ikiru Noda) I found it was quite original, and it doesn't have a submissive uke really at all and I think some of you might like it. Its definitely one of my favorites of all time :3 Its not really a hardcore yaoi, its actually got a story line with it as well. but yea. There is my two cents XD;;

Yaoi is a cliche

I've read numerous series, and for a while I grew tired of the lack of realism in the stories...

I agree with what most have said that grates on me:

The positions never changing, in yaoi if your the girly-one, you're doomed to be the 'girl' and have a very small package....there's hardly ever an instance where the roles aren't fluid...

The constant rapes/coercion for sex that ends up in 'love'

The world only being populated by guys that only have eyes for the "girl"

And there are so many more that they've slipped my mind

i agree with most of the other postings. the one cliche i haven't seen mentioned is when one of the guys, lets say the uke, gets jealous when he sees the seme talking to a girl. when the seme is GAY. in one of the stories where the seme HAS ALWAYS BEEN GAY. why are you getting jealous over a GIRL?

Absolutely this one. I started hating this line after it being overused in all smutty/18+ mangas. So I guess, it's not just for yaoi.

I'm really glad to read that most of these aren't the "rape = love?" ones and stuff like that, because some people really love those cliches and wouldn't consider them the 'worst'. I agree with a lot of the small instances, such as "I'll take responsibility" for your arousal and "oh noes I'm dirty" stuff.

My personal most hated one is when the main character spends the majority of the manga worrying over his unrequited love for the seme/uke they fancy.
And then when he finally reveals his feelings, the seme/uke he harboured these hidden feelings for comes out with "actually I've been in love with you all along"

Also; everyone is gay. I hate that. When every single dude in the story hooks up with another guy. I could get it if it found place in the gay community but most of the time it's just at work or school and it seems so unrealistic.

The only thing I can thing of that bugs me that I've seen multiple times is - 'But I'm a man' or 'I'm not woman' - well... duh. Also under what pretense would the myriad of situations that ukes find themselves in be suddenly okay if it were a woman? I usually run across it in manga that I overall like but that one line...

I love the comments about the ukes being wet and they're usually overly so as well.
What annoys me is that the ukes all have really small penis that the seme could hold between his thumb and index finger. Seriously do the mangakas find tiny little boy penis as a turn on or something? And also most of them look like some pointy thing that looks nothing like the real thing. And the issue with not having reversible roles in yaoi, considering that 90% of the ukes look like girls its gonna look pretty weird if a girl is screwing the guy. but I guess we have to keep in mind that the mangakas are mostly women who probably create ukes that they can relate to which means being on the receiving end during sex scenes.
I really hate mangas where there's someone that have been raped by a family member and starts selling their bodies or whatever.
Oh and how the hell can they just stick 3 fingers in without lube during the uke's first time? Just goes right in
