I never cuss, if some one scares me I might make the sound of the first three letters of a word. I think it has something to do with age, the older you get the less you cuss.

Alot. Like it just slips out. That's a really bad habit. Cause yeah, it's become the way i speak.. like an embedded accent. -_-;

Haha, sorry for the late reply, but I thought I have to share this one with you...

First thing I thought when reading the title was "What the f*** does cuss mean?" (english isn't my native language, and my vocabulary isn't that great...), so yeah, you get the picture... smile

Me: Darn it, it makes me so mad I feel like swearing!
Mom: Uh, honey, you're seventeen, you can swear if you want to.
Me: *Gives her the 'are you out of your mind' look*

Answer the question?

My kids are starting to swear WAY too much. dead I'm not one to care about an occasional cuss word when you slam your fingers in the door or whatever, but they've gotten in the habit of using certain words ALL THE TIME. Gotta love jr. high. dead

(Yes...I do tell them to stop because I just don't like hearing those words all the time. I don't want to make it forbidden & therefore cool roll eyes but I'm also really REALLY tired of hearing some of their favorite words.)

I curse often. But I've been trying to cut back to give my curse words more impact. So I can have those words people are just like "woah" to.

The kids aren't allowed to swear at any of the houses in my family, but they do it in private. I guess seventeen marks the appropriate age, though, because I remember my sister swearing at my age. Maybe she told me I could swear because she knows I won't do it often, if at all.

Now, my Mama has a friend that won't let her kids swear with the exception of one word, which she doesn't believe to be a bad word.

Weeellll I can't completely ban swearing, because I do it now & then, but I do try to save it for those times that REALLY seem to call for it. And now that I have my foster baby, I'm a lot more likely to let loose with something like "frickety frackety freaking HECK!!" than real swear words. laugh

Around here it's 'do as I say, not as I do' when it comes to swearing. It's one of those 'wait until you're older and you've earned the right' things as well. And also, the word 'freaking' isn't allowed by that one Mom because she says it's a substitue for something else.

I try to avoid that "do as I say, not as I do" as much as possible; not only would I feel like a hypocrite, my kids would call me one. eyes Yes, of course "freaking" is a substitute, but I'd much rather hear a two-year-old (or a 13-year-old, or any age really) say "oh freak" than what it's a substitute for. laugh Words like "heck" and "darn" are substitutes as well.

Yes, and I"m so happy to be back! But how did you know it's been three months?

@TofuQueen

Around here, we try not to call our parents too many names because they'll retaliate. I like to think we sort of go with the flow. They'll let some things slide, but if we start taking it for granted... suddenly our parents have a sharper side that we realized. You'd never know how many flaws you have until suddenly you've got a group of adults pointing them out because you overstepped your boundaries.

I do agree that substitutions are better than the actual things, and I myself happen to use the substitutes and have for a couple years at least. My Aunt has been learning the hard way that substituting is sometimes best because her four year old will copy her (sometimes even correct!)

Example:
Aunt: Oh, f...
Four year old: Mommy, you don't say f...
