I think they can the only porblems i really think there are is the size of the motor and the life of the battery and one else think it's possible or know of some other problems there might be?

It's not possible at fast speed. IF we solve the battery problem by building a mini nuclear or antimatter power source. A limited speed is applied. If the shoe goes super fast, then that person will fall over. It's like trying to drive a skyscraper at a speed of 340 miles per hour.
Also, the motor gets hot and will burn your feet.....
You are talking about Air Gear the anime right?

I am pretty sure that if one wanted to it is possible to build air trek today, but it would be so much worse than normal inline skates that it isn't worth the effort.
I am optimistic about the futur, so i say that they will be possible. Of course not anything near as powerfull as in the manga, but still possible. Electric motor, powersource integrated into backpack, and a good dose of science fiction make everything possible.
As ares said, it would sort of like moving a skyscraper because we are so high compared to wide, but i think it would still be possible to go pretty fast. You need to accelerate not to fast and lean forward to not fall over backwards.
This reminds me that i wanted to start a Oh Great! Physics fan club, i love the way he just takes stuff and completly screws it untill it suits his needs. My favorite was probably the Navier-Stokes equation which describes fluid dynamics to prove that opening a windo in the train at 200 mph would make it start to fly. Go Oh Great!

If only you could know how difficult it was to build a simple robot that shoots basketball for the school.....gosh......8 month, 4 hours per day, 6 days per week. It'll be even harder to build a mini robot that goes on people's feet.....

Whether it can be made I don't doubt. What I doubt is the practicality and the ability of the human body to cope with doing tricks at that speed. It just seems too unrealistic to expect a person to be able to do some of the things in Air gear as well. Comeon Running up walls Not really likely at all.

I don't think those things are very reliable.
number one: it breaks, it's fragile
number two: it's heavy with the fuel and motor
number three: motors get hot. it will burn
number four: if it malfunctions, it'll fuse to your feet and the fuel will burn you alive.
oh yeah
number five: if it malfunctions, but doesn't break, it's likely to lead you into a wall at a speed a 100miles per hour.

How would you know all of this btw have you actually bought them?
The motor looks pretty separate from the skate. Also ever heard of something called insulation ? It isn't meant for doing tricks duh!! Look it has a hand accelerator?? Fuse to your feet ? This is the 21st century technology has solutions to all of those arguments

perhaps luisalirio84 needs to take this to PM.
I have listed several reason why i think this will not work. i did not say they Must be true. They are my opinion. It is logical to assume that first, insulation is a problem. Second, if you ever build a robot before, you would know it's not easy. Since you are trying to make the skate as light as possible, durable materials cannot be used. Most durable material that can withstand heat and stress are heavy. Third, there is obviously a need of casing that the skate does not have. Fourth, if this skate is ever wore by anyone, all they could do is just stand on it. Think about it, you can't skate when the wheels are turning at 100 miles per hour. So it loses the purpose of being a skate. It becomes a mini mini motor cycle thing.
They solved insulation problem alright, you just have to buy material from NASA.

Well moved this to the Air Gear forum, since it's about Air treks...
And just to say, it is impossible... At least not the way it is in Air Gear the best we could make with our current technological level would be skates with motors just like those luisalirio linked to. Which are dangerous and unstable to use. And defy the purpose of skates, since you wouldn't be able to use them to do any kind of tricks.
And I think we all agree that it is impossible to do skates that can run or water or even better on the wind... Oh! Great and physics don't go well together. Actually the only thing that guy is good at is drawing babes (and even that he draws them well but fails to make them likable most of the time)...Other than that he sucks (really bad, imho of course).

of course it's possible, just not anytime soon.
anything's possible with time, heck, that's how prophecies work..
but yeh, until money isn't an issue in this world, it probably won't be made to work like in the manga.
only time will tell, heck, they've made the communcator from star trek (cell phones), so why not skates that can run on water or air.
