Well, one thing's for sure. If someone made them, ima get them! Though australia is full of short buildings, cept the cities and even then theres tram lines all over the place >_<

really, they can creat a roller with a motor, but an Air Trek like the manga will be really hard....maybe in one century or two, the dream of today is the present of tomorrow, or maybe tomorrow's tomorrow....or maybe the day after... XD

I don't think I'll be fit enough to play by then >_<

Technology is advancing really fast right now. Who knows maybe someone will create them in 10 years. By then we might already have a body upgrade (for your eyes) so why won't Air Trek's be possible.

Edit by mod: Don't double post
I just realized another way to get power for and AT if you use the spinning of a wheel like a windmill farm does with the rotation of the wheel powering a battery/motor in general then that could emphasis on could since i don't know if it's possible to make something the equivalence of a windmill engine that small then that could be a possible way to power the Air Trek's

oo I just came up with a great idea when you mentioned magnetic motor something. What if you create a small magnetic space between your feet and the inlines so that the impact from heights will be absorbed almost like a spring.

Also there's a significant differance between people riding normal inlines and aggressive inlines.....(they're not GAY)

Guys(and girls), listen(err.. i mean read), i just figured out a way to control the speed of air trek. we don't want to keep thrusting forward each time our air trek touches the ground do we? i'll explain on a new thread. i need help from all otaku around the world to make this thing real.

Are you talking about "perpetual motion machine"? I think that is not really possible, it would definitely need a fuel source other than it's own friction.

Most likely not...since, they can be broken easily, going off high jumps and stuff, even if you have them cushion things. smile

It would be pretty cool if they COULD be made and work, eh? ;]

I think it's possible but first AT will be like Rollerblades with engine. Turn them into something like in manga is question of time and how fast will todays technology evolve. And for those who are saing it's impossible. Leonardo Da Vinchi aslo though of some kind of plane aned it's not a long time people invented planes. in 100 years how far planes got. from wood, textil, strings and simple engine with slow speed to super High Tech planes that can break speed of sound and what a comfort inside. you can almost use plane to get into space. only 100 years guys. Maybe long time for today human, but in future I bet AT will be so casual as bike now. we just don't live in right time for AT

Ignoring the many things in the air gear manga which defy the laws of physics, I'd say we can never make air trek to be like it is in the manga. I have no doubt you can make a roller skate that has a motor in it, but to obtain the speeds the manga suggests while doing tricks? hell no. Also, I don't want to be rude, but please if you don't even have the slightest clue about the most basic principles of physics, don’t make comments on how to theoretically build the bloody air treks. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who swore at my computer in agony after reading the comment about harvesting energy from the moving wheels of the skate, or by cushioning your impact with magnets, but I sure hope I'm not. I didn’t really want to single anybody out, but please be reasonable, think about what you’re saying before you say it.

Note: Actually in an extensivly prepared and carfully controlled enviroment (like in a prepared training room) air trek is possible for the most part . . . its just not economically feasable, or possible in the great outdoors

there are something in manga that looks like not possible becaouse of physic. As was said. High speed and tricks would be really hard. if you'd do something like that, be happy to live. the most problem is that manga forgot that human are fragile, they are not super humans. To be able to see something like wind path is absurd. How fast the AT should run? I didn't find it in manga. AT can be made but you can't same tricks as they do in manga. It would took you a lot of times to do some trick. we should not forget that in Air Gear are few things that are just fiction. for example that super high tower with top in orbit of Earth. I doubt it could be built cause of storms and strong wind, it would be very noticeable if something like that is built and I doubt it would be built in Japan where is story of Air Gear. Japan got a lot of earthquakes. If you clearly think about it, you find more that is just fiction,But this isn't about Air Gear but about possible existence of AT. My opinion is YES.

Not too sure if anyone is still following this or not but after reading through the ideas I thought that the use of magnets was the best. Not too sure if anyone actually thought out how it would work but heres a slight description for you. Have you ever seen a coil gun? It uses magnets to fire off ball bearings at high speeds. These ball bearings go in a straight line, imagine if this ball bearing was inside a wheel, stuck in place with a magnetic hoop at the top of the wheel. If you notice how a coil gun works, the more magnetic fields, "hoops" if you will, it passes through, the faster it goes. This would loop the ball bearing through the same magnet infinitely. There's the power source, simple enough. How do you control the strength of a magnet to determine speed? You don't. You use an electro-magnet and control the amount of electricity flowing around the metal object used to your said "electro-magnet". You'll need to store the battery in a place somewhere on the skates.. you can all determine for yourselves where that may be. Next is the control of the electricity... You can seperate the "shoe" part of the skate and the top of the wheels and put in a round cylinder in the very middle to be used as a focal point. Then put a control in that will increase the amount of electricity depending on how far foward the shoe leans. Magnetic plates between the "shoe" part of the skate and the wheel parts would be good as well as that way the natural state of the skates would be where the shoe was not tilted at all, but completely flat. Here's a crappy drawing, try to use your mind to understand and do a little research into what magnets can do and have been used to do.

Even with all this there are issues, but it's still one step closer. The issues left can be handled with time... and money. None of which I believe anyone here can spare. The best idea would be for someone to create a formal schematic and contact a venture capitalist company and throw the idea at them. You may not earn any money (or fame as venture capitalists usually take all of that) but we'd get what we originall wanted... a world with ATs ;-)
