I lay the blame on the media for contributing to the mass fear and panic. I think people need to calm down and take a step back and look at the situation. The seasonal flu by itself causes 35,000 deaths in the US each year yet you don't get media outbursts over those statistics.

If it is in fact as worse as the media says it is, then there's little we can do now to stop the spread of the flu - putting detectors/sensors in airports isn't going to stop an outbreak simply because even if some people have swine flu, symptoms don't always manifest immediately.

And I honestly think that the spread of any sort of flu could, in large, be prevented if people regularly washed their hands (before meals, after going to the toilet etc etc). It always surprises (and disgusts) me seeing the number of people in public toilets who don't even bother properly washing their hands after doing their business - and no, rinsing alone =/= proper washing.

It's an old saying. The term "when pigs fly" refers to something that is perceived as an impossibility. The way America was just a few decades ago, no one could comprehend an African-American running the country. Hence the "A black man will be president when pigs fly" joke.

Thanks for clarifying that ryn. Gosh..it sounds racist..

Well, last I heard, there's about 1400 confirmed cases of swine flu here in the state of Victoria (Australia). Personally, I don't know anyone that has it, but my sister did have the flu and was coughing a few days ago.

The national breakdown is: ACT 115, NSW 513, NT 62, Qld 379, SA 161, Tas 64, Vic 1406, WA 157.

Stay away from Victoria?

Evil bump is evil.

The media is horrible on this issue. At least, my local news is. I don't even want to watch the news anymore, because of all the other lies they could be spreading.

"Swine flu" is no more dangerous than seasonal flu.

The vaccine is everywhere right now, it's crazy. And they keep spewing lies about it as well as the swine flu. First of all, do not get the vaccine, and don't give it to your children.

You have internet, do some research. I can not even believe how ignorant I was about it when it first broke out like crazy in the media.

Oh, and take at least 1000 IU of vitamin D every day.
You will be just fine. The vaccine has a much better chance
at killing you, or paralyzing you for the rest of your life.

Oh... not here too?! Everyone's worrying about Swine Flu like we're all gonna die if we don't tell the world. As mewnbrite said, it's no different than the normal flu you get when the weather changes. And that vaccine? Why would you inject something that carries more risks than the actual flu itself into your body?

Sorry for my rant. I've just heard so many exaggerations about the "swine flu" that I've gotten sick of hearing it. dead

Two people in my class had swine flu.
One of them is a friend and I hug her all the time. And I'm fine XD

So I guess I'm not really worried about it.

Sure I've heard of it, who hasn't? Actually I know a few people who've had it, including myself. Came out just fine, though I can tell you that I've never felt that sick before!

My exact thoughts. For the sake of all you love, do NOT get the vaccine. The swine flu is no cause for panic. no
