I'm just curious with what people come up with for this one. I had asked on another forum but didn't get much response ...

Since I like animals, manga that feature animals catch my eye. Does anyone know of any manga? Do you like to read manga featuring animals?

Ones I know about:
Inubaka
Animal Paradise
Tuxedo Gin
Guru-Guru Pon-chan
Bow wow wata
Weed (not in DB)
What's Michael?

Unfortunately, none of these are being scanlated, all are licensed or have been licensed and dropped

Others that are being scanlated:
Chii's Sweet Home
Kimi no Kokoro Boku no Kokoro
Wild Life

Oh, and one that was mentioned in a recent copy of Newtype that sounds rather "interesting" ...
Love Pistols

Wild Cats is about a lion who is raised as a cat. Really damn funny!

There's also Inugami, which is a much darker take on a highly evolved dog.

I <3 you for starting this topic. I'm a huge fan of animal-centric manga! And you've already listed many of my favorites... smile

I haven't read all of Fanta but it does have this girl follow around this sort of "magical dog".

Honjitsu no Neko Jijou is a series detailing the lives of the author's family of cats.
Kuuchan ga iku is a cute one-shot about a kitty the author met through her previous job at an animal hospital.
My Little Lover is by Higuri You, all about her toy-breed dog.
And Kurogo is a more realistic (and less cute) approach, written about a pair of abandoned kittens. It's scanlated by BNC, but it's not in the database, and it's pretty hard to find.

I love animal stories! I've already read most of the ones suggested here, but I'm definitely going to check out the others smile

If it's not in the database, how come you just don't add that series? Or maybe that part of the site isn't accessible to you? (I remember I had to say why I wanted be able to edit series info even after I got an account here.) Because I remember ladybrasa saying that some skating manga wasn't in the database but the database isn't being built and maintained only by the admins. none Anyhow, I just added the manga title into the database and when it's approved maybe you can add more detailed info about it?

I would think someone would have said Fruit Basket right about now...although its not entirely all about animals.

I just wanted to add this blibli but instead of maybe having to look up Furuba, you could have just typed "Fruits Basket" and put the "manga" BBC tags around them to make it clickable. smile

Skating manga? Was that me? I also signed up to edit series info about the time I signed up here, and likewise had to give reason (which is fine), but then I got confused and thought maybe it was meant for scanlators to add series, and well, I never asked. BTW, thanks to whoever did add the series. (it was actually Yume-Iro Fanta! forgot that one had a doggie!) I should also add Weed, since I didn't find it here. I am also not sure about obtaining info - info for a series I would probably just end up gleaning from another DB or something. Don't know if this is acceptable?

And I just read Vol 3 (from Viz) of Inubaka last night and it really tickles me when a manga includes stuff like - microchips!!! A chapter revolved around them . And when in Bow Wow Wata the story mentioned tapeworms looking like grains of rice ... real stuff in a cute artistic setting!

eek Whoa, I was just poking around the 'net in another window and the manga-ka of Weed, Yoshihiro Takahashi, apparently wrote a whole slew of doggie manga. And he's not in this DB. Well I guess I'd better get cracking!

Later ...
Okay, so Weed ... tentatively, Weed is one of several series revolving around a family of dogs that are not in this DB, by a manga-ka that's not in this DB, who wrote other series not in this DB, which are not so popular anyway to easily find info, but there is a Swedish person(s) scanlating some of the series - not in DB - from Japanese to English, which is available for download as a .rar file, which I can't view (I didn't want to have to download another program).
Point being, give me some time and I will get this in the Database biggrin
* maybe some 'Rocky' theme music playing in the background*

But, I also don't want to step on any toes - can I just add all this stuff to the DB or do I need to get permission from the person translating it, or if I put a description from another site (with credit of course) and things like that?

And to stay on topic ... a series that has a tiny bit to do with animals - dino-humans or something - Animal X

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Pet Shop of Horrors yet. This manga is one of the very few shoujos that I really like (Also, if you have the opportunity you should see the OVA's first (especially the first one). They're priceless, believe me).

Thanks whomever added Ginga Densetsu Weed! Where'd you get the info? I'm really slow - between work and dial-up - but I'll work on getting the others in! Thank you!

Ginga Nagareboshi Gin is also entered - another dog manga by the same manga-ka. And thanks again whomever for posting a pic! Wasn't sure on the policy for that, since I have none of my own to provide.

Also, Night on the Galactic Railroad features cat characters.
