Currently search engines like Google index the forums. Search your user name and you will find at the very least one post you have made.If a robots.txt file were made it could be set to ignore the forums. I personally only post on forums that have this. I like to keep my identity secret, at lest as much as possible. I don't want you to know what I do on other sites and people on other sites to know what I do here. It is very simple to do from what I under stand.

There's actually a thread for when you google your name here~XD

Ohh, but if you really want to keep your identity hidden, you can always request a name change, lots of people do it. O_O

Is it bad if I said I googled your name after reading this? Not that I did it...just saying. O_O

Your identity is already hidden. I doubt that anyone here knows a person named flufffycow in reallife.

If you're careful with your profile data and don't make a connection between your online nick and your real name, I don't see the problem. That's what the nick is there for. If there's still forums or certain topics (e.g. Hentai) you want to stay away from with your regular online nick, just use an alternative name for these.

Your identity secret is to be kept by you and you only. Not by the internet media you use. There are still mail- und newsgroup posts from 10+ years ago online featuring my real name as sender because that was (and partly still is) custom. Fantasy nicks were highly deprecated, so the mere fact that many forums (not even all!) allow nicks unrelated to your real name nowadays is already a way to keep your identity secret.

The internet doesn't forget, so be careful with your public presence. Thinking before posting something under a unique name is the best solution. A robot.txt alone doesn't keep your name safely out of future online archives.

Aside from that, many forums specifically want the threads to be searchable by google. Public forums tend to be helpful and the bigger search engines help finding questions and answers without the need to skim through dozens of forums locally.
