From what I recall FFXI is very party oriented --- you can't really do anything without a party (even unlocking the sub-job ability at lvl 18 is pretty much impossible alone at that lvl). WoW I hear is conversly, very solo oriented.

FFXI wasn't that great --- though I'm no really into MMOs either... From what I read of the Square-Enix press conference, FFXIV will be more solo-friendly though maybe not as much as WoW.

Sequels of games simply shouldn't exist for the FF series since each one is usually an original fantasy of its own

eek What about Final Fantasy IV: The After Years? Personally I'm very interested about this set of games (It being from the protagonist's child's point of view does lower my aniticipation and excitement sad )

Eh, WoW is kinda solo-friendly in that it's possible to get to 70 (now 80 I guess) without ever partying. You'll definitely miss out on alot of quests and equipment however. As for endgame content, you definitely need to be in a decent guild although it's possible to do the first few raids in pubs.

I don't really like the idea how they make the Online Final Fantasy games apart of the main series. Because it was actually my goal to have at least all the main series game up until XI came out because I refuse to pay a monthly fee to play a game. There are plenty of free MMOs out that can be played. The main reason I play a MMO is to intereact with other people rather than alone, so the gameplay isn't all that important, so paying to play just isn't worth it for me. So I think the online FF games should have been in a different series called FF Online and FF Online II, rather than FFXI and FFXIV.

All the online FF game seem like a easy way to increase the number of main series games to come out. So the online FF games aren't considered part of the main series in my book, more like just one of those spin off games that Square-Enix made to squeeze out some extra money by slapping FF in the title.

Don't get me wrong though, I did see the trailer for FFXIV and it did look amazing, but it being online and part of the main series is what puts me off.
