Samurai X biggrin

This was the only samurai anime I've watched so I guess I consider it as a best.

Definitely gonna read Rurouni Kenshin after going through this thread!

As for me, "best" means gore, depravity, a great storyline, and based on some historical fact:

1) Blade of Immortal
2) Shigurui
3) Don't have a third yet! Reading Sidooh now, so we'll see.

Vagabond comes close, but I hate the philosophical crap and how many parts have dawdled. Like any action movie, if the fight scene is dragged on too long it goes from exciting to boring. Like I said though, it is very close to being one of the best. It met everyone of my conditions, and Musashi's quest to become unrivaled under the sun is a good read.

Lone Wolf and Cub is the best without a doubt. Has the best characters of any samurai manga I've read and the best story. The ending will blow your mind.

I've read Rurouni Kenshin and Vagabond. Kenshin was good but at times too childish for me and the sword techniques kind of got annoying at times. Still 9/10 though. Vagabond is good too but to me it lacks a good plot and is all about fighting stronger opponents which gets old. Lone Wolf and Cub has a captivating story that will pull you in with the most badass three year old in manga history. It might take a few volumes for you to get hooked on it as it does start out episodic with assassinations, but then the story starts to develop further and pulls you in. I'll have to try Blade of the Immortal later on.

I'll vote for Rurouni Kenshin! It's really awesome samurai manga.

actually I was impressed by Vagabond, but because I've read Musashi, I think the manga needs more conversation in it. It's too silent for me.

My vote will go to Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X as well because of the great storyline and character development. But I also like Vagabond and Shigurui a lot.
