I'd like to read a manga set in the real world in present day about girls that dress lolita, preferably sweet lolita. Points if it's a shoujo and the fashion is the main focus of the story. I don't want fantasy series where the style of the universe happens to be lolita-like, and I also don't want a series where the characters dress goth but not lolita.

Some of the titles from this thread should help. Just check out the ones without fantasy.

And these:
Paradise Kiss
I Am a Piano

Shiki and Kanojo wo Mamoru 51 no Houhou - not shoujo and fashion-themed. But there are gothic lolita characters

It's worth looking at the novel version of Kamikaze Girls. Viz released a translation.

I can't believe that I actually read that for a class -_-;;.

NightSwan also said that she wanted to peg me, once, but I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or a threat...

The main character in Othello. is a gothic lolita if I remember correctly, and while I know it isn't a fashion manga in the same sense as Paradise Kiss I do remember her lolita personality being central to the story. Its been a few years since I've read this series, so my memory is a little fuzzy (and I only read the first volume). Still, you might dig it.

Now that I think about it, maybe she was a sweet lolita...which would be even closer to what you want...

Another stretch is Gokinjo Monogatari. Its a shoujo fashion manga (about fashion design students, no less), and although the main character isn't a lolita one of her side-kick friends is a sweet lolita who wears some cute outfits. Not quite on the mark either, but close-ish.

You might like the cute webcomic Confessions of an American Lolita. It's short and kind of strange, but it fits.

Nokemono to Hanayome is a fantasy style story, but the point is the cute lolita clothes.
Nana has a few side characters who dress lolita.

I believe that many of Yuki Kaori's works feature gothic fashion. Some of her female characters are gothic lolitas, or close approximations thereof. I recommend Ludwig Revolution and Fairy Cube, in particular.

Venus Versus Virus has a protagonist who is a gothic lolita, albeit with lesbian leanings.

Chobits has several characters that would suit.

You might enjoy Gott Gauss, even though the "mangaka" is Swiss.

If you're all right with boys wearing girls' gothic lolita fashion, then you should read Black Butler and Princess Princess, both of which have cross-dressing gothic lolita boys. Well, at least Black Butler has girls in gothic lolita clothing, too, not just the boys.

There's always Misa from Death Note, of course.

Loveless has gothic lolita touches all over it, particularly when it comes to Nagisa, who is a gothic lolita.

I don't know if you're willing to watch "educational anime," but Marie and Gali is an adorable science-cum-history show with a gothic lolita character as the main lead.
