I am ashamed to admit that I am a HachixTakumi fan. He treats her like crap, so I don't know why I like them . . . I also like Nobu, though, so I wouldn't mind if they had an affair or something (I know-I sound awful).

As far as the children go, I want to believe that Ren is Hachi's child, and I really hope he is, but I have a sinking suspicion that he's Reira's kid. I really hope that's not true, though. And I'm pretty sure Satsuki is the older child, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, from the flashes in the future, you can tell that Takumi and Hachi are having problems and Hachi is even (finally!) considering a divorce. I want them to work out their problems and be together, but I also think that he should start treating her better before that happens.

I don't think whatever guy Nana/Hachi ends up with is important... what I mean is, I agree with the others who posted that their FRIENDSHIP and girl bond is the very core of this story, not their relationships with Takumi, Nobu, Yasu, whoever. And to say that Hachi found Nana at the end and they remain great friends, and everyone's finally at ease with their pain, and all these conflicts are resolved... that'd be the best ending. I can't see Takumi and Hachi living happily ever after with Reira hanging around... I also can't see Takumi living with Reira happily ever after either. I think that Hachi should divorce Takumi in this case and just start anew. And Nobu, well, I personally don't think Hachi deserves him since she has hurt him a lot all this time. Seriously, Nobu should stop pining over Hachi. He needs a girl who really loves him 100% (like the porn star chick lol, I actually liked her, too bad she and Nobu didn't work out).

As interesting as the theories are, I think it could be:

Ren is Nana's son and Satsuki is not her real daughter. What do you guys think? Obviously, Nana has a habit of bonding with those who are not her own.

A random toss into the air.

Probably not true though but I just want an ending to this manga already. I need answers, we all do. But I'm sure Ai will come back and finish this off, please don't kill the readers in anticipation smile

Since Yazawa-san is not ready to continue the manga yet :-< , here's my take on the possible outcome for all characters:

Reira --> self-blame, depression --> moves to England --> Trapnest disbands

Appearance of Ren Jr, love child of Takumi and his English mistress (Stella??), dumped on Takumi --> Takumi goes to England to bring up the child and take care of Reira --> the child causes a strain in Hachi and Takumi's marriage, but Hachi generously accepts him as Satsuki's older bro and names him after Ren (still, the child is not related by blood to Hachi, so he sticks with Takumi) --> Takumi has an additional assignment in England: to find Nana

Nana --> after Ren's death, the members of Black Stones lose their spirit (and selling power) and are dropped by Gaia --> the loss of her career and lover takes its toll on Nana --> she decides to drown herself in England, where punk music originated

(Water motif: Ren's ashes were scattered in the sea, Nana's promise to meet Ren at the Sanzu river were she to die first)

Nobu and Yuri split up --> he takes over the Terishima Inn --> continues his unrequited love for Hachi

Yasu and Miu stay together

Shin becomes a B-grade actor --> gets involved with Misato??! (Not really sure about this! But in the flash-forwards, he seems to be the one in closest contact with her)

I don't think that the ending of this manga is anytime soon. There are a lot of loose ends, plus add to that the fact that there are a lot of mysteriousness in Takumi, and to both , Nana O. and K, future.

I honestly don't understand how people can approve for Hachi's relationship with Takumi. It is very clear that he does not give her what can truly make her happy. She basically settled with him to marry him so that she did not have to disrupt Nobu's life of wanting to fulfill his dream of becoming a famous musician with Nana, because she would have taken that away from him if she decided to be with him. Although I feel Hachi had been incredibly selfish in wanting to raise the child due to her "maternal instinct", she was also able to give Takumi the "family" that he wanted to return to for the 10% of his life that wasn't business-related.

I guess I kind of have the views of a feminist in the sense that I find it horribly unappealing and degrading to drop everything in order to live as a man's object (especially when he is unfaithful and doesn't truly give her the love she wants and deserves as a human being). He may *sort of* love Hachi, but the "love" she gets from Takumi is basically all he is able to give her, which I don't find to be enough for someone to want to stay with him. No matter what, she will never be more important to him than Reira or his work, and I just think that he doesn't deserve to have someone there like that for him because of his priorities in life.

Thus, I look at Nobu as the perfect solution to literally ALL of Hachi's problems. With Takumi, she continues to feed her own selfish desire, but when she was with Nobu, she actually wanted to do things for him and treat him well. I want Hachi to smarten the f*** up and just accept that she will never find true happiness with Takumi and get a divorce with him so that she can be with Nobu. Being with someone like him isn't an unrealistic solution, as once he had become more established as a musician with BLAST, getting married wouldn't really hold him back from his career, and he would have the means to financially support someone else (i.e. Hachi). I don't think Nobu would truly be happy without her, and I don't think she would truly be happy with Takumi, so why the hell not already?? After he is done with his music career (short-lived because of BLAST's disbandment, since he didn't want to play with anyone besides Nana in the first place) Nobu has nothing keeping him from his family's ryokan, and Hachi can live there with him and her child.

I hope that Nana doesn't try to kill herself though. Although her and Ren had stressed their bond together as being "one" and "willing to die for each other", she still has a lot to live for. Ren technically was the one person that was constantly tempting her to submit to her weaknesses that stemmed from when she was abandoned as a child. I loved Ren's character. He was sexy, full of passion, beautiful, but also weak emotionally. Quite like Nana, which is why they were sort of like poison for each other's wounds. Once Ren started getting into drugs, I basically thought it was over for him, and that he was going to ultimately lose to his weaknesses. Characters like him remind me so much of Jim Morrison, the singer from the Doors. Although they are so amazing, and they are loved because they are so full of passion, they are also capable of becoming a beautiful disaster.

I kind of want Takumi to end up alone. In my opinion, he doesn't deserve to have a single person beckoning for his call or waiting for him to come home with a big smile on their face. He is not a good human being, and lives solely for his career, which even means using others at his own whims. Therefore he should not get everything he wants, especially when it has to do with the feelings of other people.

I would love for Shin-chan to clean up his act and end up with Misato-chan. They would be a great couple, and I could see her being incredibly supportive of him, as she is a very strong and charismatic character, which has the possibility to fix the attachment issues of someone like Shin-chan who had a really crappy upbringing.

Because Reira forces Takumi to become her lover, she causes a rift in their relationship, and things are never the same again. This may lead to depression (citing littleyellowdress), or something of the like.

^ all of the above that's pretty much how I view it, Takumi was what Hachi needed for a time but now that all the stuffs come down; when Hachi truly needed Takumi to be there for her he wasn't, he was off bonking some other chick that alone tells me their marriage was/is doomed. There was a period of time they could have worked but it seems given the future scenes that Hachi grows even more as a person especially since she becomes a mother that she actually doesn't need Takumi and he certainly doesn't need her. Nobu is now the man that Hachi could actually need and has proven himself to actually be there for Hachi, to be stable and they both have the added interest of Nana. Personally I think whatever causes Nana to snap and leave wasn't Ren's death it's something else something bigger I always thought it would have something to do with her mother but also something Hachi does as well. I hope we find out I'd hate to die without having known how such an important manga in my life ends.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
From what I uderstood Takumi and Hachi had 2 children, first one is a boy named Ren who seems to be rather Nobu's son. But he lives with Takumi in England. Hachi is raising their daughter Satsuki. They are living separatedly and are planning one a divorce. Hachi during her pregnancy has reconciled with Nobu. So seeing from this I would say that she will end up with Nobu. As for Nana, she left alone to go to England where she now sings in bars? I think Hachi, Nobu, Shin, Yasu and people are all actively looking for Nana and that they will meet again. However it is still a mystery to me if Nana will go back to Tokyo. I don't think that everyone would be living together etc, this is way too happy of an ending and doesn't really match with the mood of the series, although that would be the happiest ending
. After all these things that happened I'd say they will all each have their own life sort of, but taking time to meet up occasionally at 707.

Personally, I do like the Hachi x Takumi coupling, but to be honest, they seem to be together more out of need and loneliness rather love. I think Takumi wants to marry a woman that gives him a feeling of home or family, and Hachi is matching this image that he is expecting. So in this way, these two really fit. Hachi is a lonely and dependent person initially, and Takumi provided her the feeling of safety. She feels very bad about herself but Takumi accepted her that way. So for Hachi, Takumi had this manly figure of a person she can rely on. However in their relationship, romance and love takes a very minor role. As for Nobu, he didn't seem very reliable or mature(when he came to see her when he knew about the child, he showed anxiety nervousness but didn't say anything about assuming responsibility) to Hachi, although the love they shared is stronger. He seemed to be like a youngster to Hachi and she had this sort of motherly tenderness toward him. Plus his reaction when he found out that Hachi was pregnant was not very mature. Hachi yearned more for a reaction like Takumi's(he was angry that Hachi betrayed him but still took care of her and waited till things were settled before expressing his anger). He was indeed more responsible and mature in that way compared to Nobu and was more like a 'model father'. I first read Nana when I was 13, and at that time I couldn't understand why Hachi can possibly choose Takumi over Nobu. Now when I re-read and watched, I understood her choice. She felt very helpless at that time, finally reaching her happiness(being with Nobu) and yet discovered that she is pregnant. She didn't know who was the father and knew that Nobu didn't have what it took to take(both financially and emotionally) and rise the child as his own. She didn't expect him to do so either because she knew it was her own fault. But this doesn't mean that she didn't wish that he could do so. And yet out of mother instinct she loved her child and did not want to lose the baby. And at that time the least expected person(Takumi, as she thought of him as a very irresponsible man) came to her and said the exact words she wanted to hear. I mean who'd want their child with no father right? So I'd say that although she might not have done the right things as a girlfriend or a woman, she did make a.right decision as a mother. She shouldn't have two timed Takumi and Nobu, but she paid her price too: as a mother she had to sacrifice her happiness with Nobu for the sake of the baby.

WUT? How is deciding to have your own child selfish? You claim to be a feminist, yet you think a woman's choice over her pregnancy to be selfish? UMMMMMMM
