So, no new chapters till September. What to do? Through theories around, of course. And consolidate known facts. Nana is a very long manga, so I'd appreciate you correcting me if I mess some things up.
What do we have now:
- Nana is told retrospectively, from a point of time near "future" parts. It may continue past that point - if you're an optimist, since many opening narrations imply Nanas are separated. If you're a pessimist, it may be told from a "death bed" point in time. I wouldn't put such thing past Yazawa.
- "Future" parts imply Nanas are essentially single: Hachi had a falling out with Takumi but didn't got back together with Nobu (they look like friends, with a bitter note of memories). Nana is somewhere in England, trying to forget her sorrows (we don't know what was the trigger of her running away).
- Yasu is still hanging out with Miu, maybe more.
- BLAST and Trapnest are not doing well, if at all. BLAST members stayed in Japan, while Trapnest members are in England.

Looks like I covered essential parts. What do you think will happen to Nanas in the end? Here are some ideas:
- Hachi finds Nana, they buy a house and live happily ever after as BFF.
- Hachi finds Nana, they realize they actually loved each other all this time, buy a house and live happily ever after as lovers.
- Hachi finds Nana, things work out, they find new romantic partners, buy two adjacent houses and live happily ever after.(If you are familiar with Marimite, think Rei and Yoshino mothers)
- Hachi doesn't find Nana, or things don't work out and they become separated forever. BAD END.
Additions and corrections welcomed.

Personally "I" would be happiest with option 2, although I could also enjoy option 1. However, given the way the manga has gone to this point, I fully expect the series to end with option 4.

I don't see option 3 happening. I imagine that things just won't go well for Nana and Hachi will just have to live her life (though maybe she and Nobu will work out their differences (remembers the bathroom scene in the "future" parts...).

I am a Hachi x Takumi fan.
even though it seems that Takumi has abandoned Hachi and is attending to Reira I am still thinking that in the end Takumi will go back to hachi and leave everything else.
I have one more questions. Is little Ren the baby of Hachi and Takumi? Is it possible that he is Reira's kid? I dont think so but want the opinion of other Nana fans. If he is Hachi and Takumi's second child, then Takumi and Hachi should have a happy ending

Regarding the Nana x Hachi plot, I dont see it being happily ever after. Hachi will go to England and find Nana but they will not be moving in together or living together.

I've always thought little Ren is their first child and Satsuki is their second child confused
As for the ending, I kinda hope that Hachi and Takumi get back together, and Nana gets back on her feet, coming back to Japan.
Unfortunately, most of the time my preferred ending in mangas don't come true embarrassed

I think the reason why Nana ran to England might be because, she realized her feelings for Hachi and maybe confessed? But as Hachi already loves Takumi, she couldn't accept those feelings. Nana then felt disgusted with herself and couldn't face Hachi anymore, so she ran away. I believe this because after Ren died Hachi was all Nana had left, and from reading this manga I can tell that the feelings Nana has for Hachi is deeper than friendship feelings. And so, I wish for option 2. Hachi finds Nana, and they live together happily ever after, as lovers <3.

...I could dream right? ;o

I believe the series will end with option 4 too. Considering the no-ending tragedies, this series is bound to have a bad ending. (Because the author is a sadist, she loves to torture us) =(

Thing is, Hachi loves kids. She wouldn't abort second kid even if she absolutely hated Takumi at the time. Also Hachi and Takumi's kids are nearing 10 years old. Lots of stuff could happen from the time they were conceived to now. And as of now, Hachi and Takumi does not seem to actively hate each other, but don't seem to be able to coexist either.

I don't think it's possible. Even if Nana confessed, Hachi would probably accept her immediately. Remember situation with Hachi and Shouji, she was practically cheating on him with Nana. More possible would be that Nana didn't confessed and just ran away from her feelings, not wanting to be chained by such strong love again.

Hi LexXxich. I'd like to ask you if you could analyze Takumi's character for me.
Do you think he loves Hachi as a woman? When he said to her "I think about other woman but you're the only one I love".
...Thanks
confused

So, since we're into October, has anything new happened?

Analyze Takumi? Now that's the task I don't want to do. I may try, but it'll be purely speculations and IMHOs. Also, it's not the purpose of this thread. If you create another for him, and post your thoughts there, someone will surely reply.

My question exactly. I don't want to sound like a bratty leecher, but has there any news on Ai Yazawa health and NANA new manga issue or anime 2nd series?

My speculation is that Hatchi goes to England to try to find Nana, bu the two have a near miss meeting and never see each other. Or Nana goes back to Japan and meets Yasu, but then tells him that she doesn't think she can handle seeing everyone after so long and decides to start over. So, Yasu being who he is keeps their meeting a secret and maybe checks in on her from time to time. From what I've read so far, Takumi and Hatchi are only going through a mutual separation while Takumi works in Europe and Nana has a job as a fashoin designer or wardrobe cordinator? I think its entirely plausable for lil Ren to be Hatchi and Takumi's first child, while the girl is the second, since it doesnt see like they have been separated for that long. I also think that Takumi stays in Europe because Reira doesn't want to go back to Japan. Or maybe Reira is lil Ren's mother?
Also, I have no problem with homosexuals and I think its your choice, but why cant two people of the same sex have a deep friendship and a unconditional love for one another without being called gay? I dont think that Hatchi and Nana have that kind of relationship and I would be honestly disappointed if that were so. Because both women are deeply in love with men in the story and it just wouldn't work for the plot.
Ikd, I really love this story and the art is amazing! I hope Yazawa gets better to finish it up!

Thing is... Just how retrospectively is this story?. What we assume is happening in the present or future could actually still be flash backs from the distant future. This could be 2 little old ladies remembering things from back in the good ole days .

It seems to be a pattern from the earliest days of their marriage. Takumi going back to Hachi only when he wants some "warm and fuzzy feeling" of being a family, giving her limited doses of attention. She says it herself - she is a victim of Stockholm syndrome. Whatever is happening between them now does not make any of them happy. That is why, IMHO, Hachi is so adamant in searches for Nana - she wants a target for her love, someone equal to connect to. I don't know if it makes her "sleeping" homosexual, or a bisexual. Relationship between Nana and Hachi is way stronger then just friendship. They are "important friends", taisetsu na tomodachi. Taking it further, I'd say that in ideal circumstances (sexualy liberated society), with no current romantic attachments, Nanas would hit it off as lovers very well.

While it could be told from old ladies' POV, I feel that opening narrations in "future" chapters are not looking back, but contemporary. I might be mistaken, of course.

Here's my take on Ren and Satsuki, I thought they're twins. They appear to be roughly the same age, and I don't believe(correct me please as I may be wrong) that there was an instance where Hachi or Satsuki ever referred to Ren as big brother, or little brother, simply, brother. I feel that it'll be revealed sometime later that Hachi discovers that she has twins, and that's where Ren comes in.

Although I am a Nana x Hachi supporter, to me, their relationship doesn't contain that sexual element that would define them as lovers. It's clear that they deeply love and cherish each other, but it's lacking the sexual nature, and they have a deep unconditional bond of friendship. I'd say that the feelings that they hold for each other is the in the deepest meaning of friendship.
