I'm constantly thinking of things I could ask for, and there are usually so many...And it's not very planned out, either. So I don't ask. But now, it's sorta come together into a legible post, so I'm asking for a manga that has a few things I just thought of o.o; Some must be there, while others not. So here we go~

1.Main Character
-Female
-Smart (Maybe not book smart, but smart)
Just because she's smart, does not mean I want a prude,
snobby girl. She can be ditsy
-Witty
-Not stupid (No going off into basements when it's dark and the killer's obviously down there)
-Is well aware and attuned/synced to the readers thoughts
i.e. is actually a real person that has seen a horror movie and knows not to go into the woods after hearing strange crying

2.Genre
-I'd prefer a warm pie that leaves you full rather than spicy ramen (out of milk!! no!!)...
Yeah, I'm sure that makes sense
-I don't think it would have a smut or ecchi tag
-Not so romantic that it has a romance tag (and if it does, I don't want it to be the focus)
-Bad combo: Ecchi, Seinen, Comedy
-Bad combo: Drama, School Life, Romance
-No petty issues that drive the manga
-Fantasy/Supernatural/Action is fine, as well as Shoujo, Josei, Shounen, and Seinen.

3. Other
-It'd be nice if it wasn't a one-shot or compilation of short stories
-Has not been dropped/held

...Is that everything? Haha, am I being picky? ~There's just a lot to mention!

*waits in silence*

Ookami to Koushinryou
To a less extent:
Superior
Claymore

I'd have said ES if you didn't specify female main char. And well, your main char description reminds me too much of Triela from Gunslinger Girl to avoid to mention it, even if I don't think it's quite what you're looking for.

I highly recommend the first one.

I've shied away from the wolf & spice anime, but maybe the manga will do eyes Thanks

Well, I specified female because I didn't think a guy would work well with the traits and I would just die of annoyance laugh How's the romance in ES?

And, Triela...She definitely fits the bill for the smarts I'm talking about, but she doesn't seem humorous enough and is too reserved (but I've only seen the first half dozen or so episodes of the anime...)

Starting from the top... never saw wolf & spice anime, so I can't speak for that. I was suggesting it because Horo is very sharp (I thought this what you intented with "not book smart"), witty, sometimes sarcastic and for some reason I identify with her a lot.

Almost no romance until the last part in ES. But reading your answers here probably is not what you're looking for.

Well, I watched about 7-8 episodes of GG anime and it wasn't bad nor good, it didn't make a particular impression on me. Manga is my alltime favorite. About Triela, it is just that the manga is very slow depicting the flow of girls' emotions and Triela starts to be less reserved only when she can't hide her feelings anymore (but it happens in the later volumes, remember that the anime only covers two volumes...).

I'm aware that I can make many strange association, another character who came to my mind is Hiyoko from Spiral but again I don't know if she's what you are looking for.

I second Hiyono from Spiral. She's exactly a smart, witty and not stupid female main character. But Spiral doesn't have much romance.

Yako from Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro bigrazz I love requesting this for some reason XD She's comical I can tell you that XD

BUT, guessing from the genre of a "warm pie that leaves you full rather than spicy ramen", you want something lighthearted? -sweat-

It's mystery, blood, and gets really dark when it progresses, but it's a great read because Yako isn't stupid :\ And Neuro abusing her all the time is just too funny XD

And the romance...Hm. Nope, unless you start shipping a specific couple :\ There are jokes about it, but that's about it XD

gokusen It fits the bill almost perfectly I think. The maincharacter is female. Shes got street smarts(The yakuza kind) but shes kinda a ditz(shes silly-ish scatterbrainy at times), its got heart warming-ish moments, the romance that is there isn't blatant its more subtext-ish.

@reid1, base_coat: I'm not sure about Spiral. I read some and the characters aren't too-too young, but I've never been much of a detective kinda person. It seems kind of boring, but the characters personalities are quite likable smile

@coldjava: Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro sounded good, even though it's not what I'm looking for. The girl falls right into that evil trap in the first chapter, sigh. It's kind of confusing and erratic. dead But I might read it for Neuro and the gore at some point.

And no, I don't want something lighthearted, but not some tragic mess. Happy medium? -.o

@darknova42: I wonder why I'm getting so many similar recommendations. laugh The main character in Gokusen is almost perfect, and the manga is really funny eyes I've heard of it before, but I wasn't quite sure. If I knew the character had such a double side, I would have read it sooner. I loooove the kind of character that seems sort of ordinary, but they're really not biggrin
