I feel really stupid, but I don't know how to get the irc things to work. Somebody please help me! I need an explanation...

Can you be a little more specific as to what problems you are facing? Can you not grasp IRC at all or you just don't know how to dl off IRC.

I just downloaded; I understand the really basic operation, but I'm wondering about files.
Just as an example, I was told that the Tokyopop scans can be found at #lurk@irc.irchighway.net. I don't know how to find or obtain the files even once I've joined that channel.
I know, I'm probably just being unbelievably stupid...I do that occasionally...I'd appreciate anyone's help. Thanks!

First of all please stop condemning yourself... Secondly i wish to say that you re one of the few decent people who ask for help appropriately. Not spamming the other forum threads which are based for manga topics with "Pls help me" shit. About downloading, you'll need to be in #lurk first. Once you re there half the battle is won. Then using your internet browser go to http://gotlurk.net/. In the search box type in the name of the manga you re looking for. You will then come to a screen which lists alot of titles. Click on the '#' to get a xdcc command. Copy that and paste into the status window of your mIRC program. That should do it. If you need more specific instructions post here again or just talk to the people in lurk. Dont worry if some pricks call you a noob. There will be someone to help you.

I've fallen in love with manga in the past month; I've been reading like crazy,and I'm on like my 9th series (Hana Kimi, yay!)...well, I haven't finished all of them, I haven't found the ends of a lot of them. I'm a little lonely lately; it's my first semester of college, and I miss all my friends and my family, and my puppy (she's my baby!) I've been reading manga to cheer myself up when I'm feeling a little depressed, since I've already devoured all the novels I got for my birthday this summer.

I tried what you said, I'm still having trouble; if I copy and paste what shows up when I click the # at the got lurk page, and it tells me there's no such nickname or channel...I don't know what I'm doing, haha...Oh well.

Most probably the bot is down for maintainence. But usually thats rare so it might be your luck. Well since you already got onto IRC mellow's very 'helpful' guides will be very little helpful. Btw mellow check yer links dammit. They give 404s. Laziest ass on yer staff list Manick. And he's yet to give me a translator for Kurohime. Anyway back to topic, Once clicking the '#', you should see something for e.g Naruto chpt 323, like this, "/msg WandyPot xdcc send #229". Copy that entire line and paste into the part where you type to chat. It should definitely work. If you still can't get look for me in #genesis. I should be on most of the time. And yeah Manick. i cant stand some of the asses in #lurk.

Are you sure you've joined the #lurk channel in IRC prior to sending the xdcc command? You usually get this message if you haven't joined the channel or joined the wrong channel and try to do a send request. Once you've joined #lurk, then paste the xdcc command in the status window (i.e., not the #lurk window where everyone's chatting) and then hit enter.
Do please let us know if you have more questions. I know sometimes the tutorials themselves can be confusing b/c most assume you're already familiar with the IRC lingo... Good luck!

Thanks everybody! It's working now, I'm downloading the last 2 volumes of Kare Kano...I'm holding off till summer before buying manga--I'm going to buy my favorite series' when I'm home & have a job during break. (much less expenses when not at college and buying my own food) At the moment I'm too broke.
