Hello, I'm looking for some manga and anime for a kid i know. He's just had heart surgery and can't be active for the next two years so i'm looking for some manga to give him something to do.

Shonen would be best and he does like inuyasha, but there can't be any violence or fighting because it riles him up and that is what we are trying to avoid. So far i've only been able to come up with Detective Conan. sports manga might work, but it also might rile him up since he can't play sports anymore.

I've been puzzling over this for about a week now, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hrmmm... that's a toughie.

Well, here are a couple that might work, but you might want to double check them yourself.

Kyoukai no Rinne same mangaka as Inuyasha
Hayate the Combat Butler maybe...
Letter Bee Not to much action, but does has some drama.
+Anima Pretty laid back, but does have a little action.

'fraids that all I have. Most of the stuff I read has action or is shoujo. no

Hikaru no Go
Island (KOMI Naoshi)
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan -- There are some brawls, but mostly it's comedy. You could read some of it to see if it's okay.

These are not shounen, but they might be okay (they're peaceful stories, but not too adult or mushy):
Chii's Sweet Home
Gisele Alain
Kamisama Hajimemashita -- the male lead reminds me of Inuyasha
Natsume Yuujinchou
Safe Again Today
Yotsuba&!

I second Hikaru no Go and Yankee kun to Megane chan. All YKTMC has is just delinquent brawls and the like, but it isn't blood and gore XD.

Well, I would suggest the drama version of Yasuko to Kenji. Shoujo, yes. But it's fricken hilarious with a lot of table flipping.

"Bungaku Shoujo" to Shi ni Tagari no Douke - It's about literature and a girl who literally eats it o.o I only read the first chapter, but it doesn't seem to have violence.

Bakuman - I haven't read it in a while, but it's about wanabe mangakas bigrazz . Not sure if there's action-y scenes though.

Hm...well that's all I can think of. I'll edit if I find more.

EDIT: Oh ho ho~ I found one!

Hetalia: Axis Powers - Once again, this is one of the anime/mangas I haven't read/watched in a while, but I remember it was amusing~

Usually sports is the easiest choice available for this. If he's only 10, then romantic comedies probably won't appeal to him as much as sports or action will (though without knowing the kid I really can't say).

Usually Adachi Mitsuru is the go-to guy here, but I'm not sure if you can buy his stuff in English.

Aside from sports:

He might enjoy GTO. I think there are one or two action-esque scenes, but it's mostly just comedy and drama.

Yakitate!! Japan is another option that Viz has licensed.

Death Note technically doesn't have violence, but it is pretty suspenseful.

Haven't read it myself, but Beck shouldn't have violence either.

And some other ideas:
Doraemon
Kimagure Orange Road
Kimi to Boku
Ocha Nigosu

This really is a hard one. 0.0 I think most shounen have fighting of some sort.

What is your definition of fighting? a few punches, or people getting killed?

Twin Spica might be good. A wee bit mature prehaps, but it has 0 fighting and is about a bunch of kids going after their dreams. (Maybe might make him a bit depressed? Since he can't do that..... so I dunno.)

It might also help if you go to the search engine, click on the genere search, and just red box action and green box shounen, then search by rating. It should get you some good ones.

hmm... well, a shounen with no fighting sorta defeats the purpose of shounen. ^^; But here's a few I like that aren't too action filled.

Cirque Du Freak: Darren Shan
BeyBlade
Yakitate!! Japan
Pokemon Adventures (loved this when I was a kid)

I see someone suggested "Bungaku Shoujo" to Shi ni Tagari no Douke. I have to warn you that it's very dramatic (might not be some people's liking) and currently slow to be translated.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
It will have murder, murder attempts, suicide, prostiution, and dysfunctional family/relationships. Not sure whether it's really suitable for a pre-teen though it's shounen.

My recommendations are:
Aria and Aqua, they are shounen, peaceful and have no fighting.

Dr. Slump - be careful with this though, because it can be very funny, if you want to prevent him from laughing too hard. At least I did when I read it as a kid. So you'd better not make him read it right after the surgery (maybe wait a bit longer).

Rozen Maiden - seinen without much violence. Should be fine.

And I second Hikaru no Go.

They are all licensed.

I too second Hikaru no Go. Best choice imho.

I also think Mahoraba could be a good choice.

thanks for all the suggestions. I'll get him Hikaru no Go and Dr. slump for sure and i'll look into Aria and Aqua in addition to the others i'm already looking into. This has been a great help because it's difficult to find shonen without violence.

Oh, and the definition of violence/fighting in this case is one where the characters get into a fight in most chapters. An occasional battle is ok, but any more and we're afraid he'll get too riled up.

MushishiIt's more seinen but its worth a shot. Great series.
Beck about a rock band trying to make it big
Initial D thought I much prefer OverRev, or Wangan Midnight if you go the car route
Planetes

How about some actual books. Boogiepop series is hella awesome.
