Hey there! It's been a while since I've requested anything, so...

The thing is, I'm getting kind of curious about the whole yaoi thing. While I have nothing against homosexuality, I've never really tried reading/writing/watching it, as I'm not entirely sure if I'd be comfortable with it, but there's such a huge market for yaoi manga in Japan that I feel the need to give it a try. So I'm looking for a yaoi manga that would kind of ease me into the genre, "yaoi for beginners". laugh

What I basically want is:
- Nothing too graphic (DEFINITELY no smut)
- A fairly light, charming story, not overly dramatic
- Reasonably short series
- If possible, a slow-developing romance, with emphasis on the fact that the two men/boys are friends first.

Thanks in advance!

I just want to tell you that most of the time yaoi has little to do with homosexuality and is sugar-coated romance like shoujo, but in a different way. People read them because they like sugar-coated relationships. Simple as that.

Why don't you try shounen-ai first? I would recommend:

Makeinu no Nandemoya (though silly at times IMO)
Itoko Doushi and IMA Ichiko's other works

Most of KUNIEDA Saika's works are comedic and light (just avoid the drama ones).

There are yaoi stories where the seme (top) formerly slept with loads of women and now thinks the uke (bottom) is his only one, or something ridiculous like that. But if you don't mind and can read them for the comedy, go for it.

Wrong section.

I would suggest The Weatherman is my Lover.
Bukiyou na Silent
Little Butterfly

Future Lovers II (I second Kunieda Saika's works )
Koi Cha no Osahou

Maybe some shounen-ai?
Jadou - Tenmou Yatan
Soshite Hibi Koishiteku
Kokoro Kikai
Doukyuusei (NAKAMURA Asumiko)
Yume Musubi, Koi Musubi
Sugar Milk

Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Yep, you should try Shounen-Ai first. You'd probably prefer it to yaoi

Koyubi wa Amaku Sasayaku
Me Niwa Sayakani Mienedomo
Sono Yubi Dake ga Shitteiru

Puchi Puri
Natsu, Kimi ga Saku

Longer than you'd like, but definitely fits your "friends" bit.

One of my first yaoi/shounen-ai mangas was yatteraneeze! I don't remember it being too graphic.

Thanks everyone! And sorry about the category mix-up; I just stuck it in "I'm Looking For" because it was a request - I didn't even think of the yaoi/yuri section.

All the suggestions look promising, and I'll be sure to check them out. Once again, thank you!

KINOSHITA Keiko's works for a beginner, I guess?

Art is not "pretty" but acceptable to me (no problem with following story). I read a couple of her works and enjoyed them. Try:

Tonari no Kare
Meguriau yo Baby
Kiss Blue
