I never said Yotsuba is shounen because it looked childish, my point is that it is shounen because it is serialized in a shounen Magazine.
Publication IS the only factor that determines whether a manga is shounen or seinen. It is that objective. Use "mature", "adult" or whatever label you like to mark the demographic (all of which are meaningless in mainland China by the way), but "shounen" or "seinen" only concerns about the publication.

I think it has been listed as seinen up until now because sources at the time said it was a seinen magazine. That doesn't mean the demographic won't change over time. For more info about the issues with magazine classification and how MU currently categorizes magazines see this thread:

It's just plain stupid to say that youtsubato is shounen...
shounen = for boys under 18 = stupid stuff, harem, simple plots, lots of boobs and fan service, etc.
seinen = for males 18-30 = slightly less stupidity, generally deeper plots, less stupid fanservice, etc.
How so yotsubato is shounen?
IT ISN'T.

umm... you're the one with the issue here.
Demographic is determined by magazine. The publisher chooses how to market a series, the themes and content are ultimately irrelevant. Yotsubato! is published in Dengeki Daioh!, which is a shounen magazine. Ergo, Yotsubato! is shounen, regardless of what conceptual problems you may have with it, shounen is the target audience.

Agreed. Take for example Kuroshitsuji or Death Note. Both deal with deeper plot lines and deal with deeper themes such as death, sex and drugs and should be classified as seinen. However, publication in a shounen magazine has led both series to be classified as such. Lampshaded in Bakuman, by the same mangaka of Death Note.

Let's just face the fact that both seinen and shonen demographics are for guys, as shojo and josei (plus the genres yaoi and some yuri) are for girls.
I'd also like to mention that, despite magazine serialization, a vague target audience may also apply. Take Kuroshitsuji for example. It is very much a boys' series, but Kuroshitsuji has feminine fanservice in it as well (well, it is written by former BL mangaka, [a]YANAO Rock[/a].)

And, from what I know, 18 isn't an adult in Japan, so anyone under 20 is still a child... so that would make it seinen if it was targetted at someone over 20, well, R-18 stuff would count as seinen to I guess.

For future references, when you've come across enough evidence for things like demographic change simply submit a "request change" in your user CP and also ask for a lock at the same time so stupid people can't change it back over and over.
Forum posting about things like this usually run into issues with people not knowing that it's tied to the magazines and not the individual series (unless it is published alone without magazine serialization). Submitting the information to the topic and person waftingwish posted is also good.
I do believe that like others have said before that the magazine was either listed as seinen before and to a lesser extent it might have changed magazines/restructured.
