Let's ask the brain trust here at mu what they think of the uniquely human phenomenon of love dolls.

I'm sure most people are familiar with those $15 inflatable blondes you can buy at "adult stores", fitted with three neat holes, looking victims of some bizarre sex crime when hastily stuffed back into their cardboard boxes. What I'm talking about are those $5,000 life-size "dolls" made of lifelike soft silicon, intended not for just one-night stands with desperate guys bored of masturbation but to be loved and coveted for years (by extremely weird people). They come in all shapes, sizes, and ethniticities, including "anime".

As you probably guessed, Japan is leading the market on these lovelies, although there are also several popular companies in Latin America and the United States. And it isn't at all only Japanese men collecting them - love dolls have gained fans all over the world. You may have one for a neighbor and not even know it. You know that girlfriend of your coworker? The one that never feels like coming out of the house? The one that looks a little inanimate on that photo on his desk? She could be made of lifelike silicon, too.

So what do you think of having a girlfriend made of plastic? What kind of person do you think would keep one? Are you interested?

haha xD That guy has so many of them. The excuse that he just doesn't love real women, that they can betray you, etc., means nothing and is complete bull in his case (anyone's case) laugh I mean...nearly 100 of them? I can understand owning 1, but...

Not the fact that he owns a love doll, but the fact that he owns so many speaks for itself. "Real women" ... He must have unrealistic expectations, to pay so much for dolls to sit around, at his "beck and call," so to speak. Makes me wonder exactly what kind of person he is.

They might not be able to cheat on you, but they can't move, they can't kiss you, they have no temperature like a human, the "sex" can't justify the price when it's really no different than masturbating.

170,000$...You could buy a decent house with that. Asshole; spending that on dolls.

I bet cleaning them is a pain. I wonder if he dresses them up and sets up romantic dinners. Ah well, the fact that he can even spend so much money on dolls really gives me no right to talk dead

No, I would never want a girlfriend/boyfriend made of any other material than human flesh, as for being interested...well, they're cute. I'm straight & female, so I have no real use for them except maybe having a life-size doll to dress up would sort-of-just-could-be neat, though having it sitting somewhere, not moving...would creep me out. And I would never drop 5,000$ on one.

The humility and shame I'd feel even if I bought one of those inflatables would be too much for me to handle. I'd feel so pathetic and paranoid. Personally, anyway. If you have 5,000 to spare, good for you~!

If he bought more than a hundred of them, then obviously they're not working. He probably still feel unsatisfied and lies to himself about it sad

I don't think it's disgusting, I mean, it's his interest, who am I to judge? It's probably useful in some way...at least he can rest assured, knowing that they'll never cheat on him. But still, an inanimate object(or a hundred of them lol) can never take the place of a human touch.

If that's how he wants to live, so be it.

I don't think I would ever want a doll like that.

A hug pillow thing, maybe, but that's a huge maybe.

So what do you think of having a girlfriend made of plastic?

To each his own?
It's his money.

If it makes him happy... Sure, why not?
I mean, it's way better than having a guy on the streets causing trouble or even raping just because he's lonely.

Are you interested?
As attached as I get to things, I don't think I could ever live my life with no human contact like that.
Speaking and living with a doll... I can't see myself doing that.
Plus, they're expensive. I know they can reach up to 8000$ and more.

But if you were to give me a doll for free, I don't say I wouldn't take it. roll eyes laugh
Though I don't see how that doll could serve any purpose (for me) other than being a pretty decoration/model for fantasies.
These dolls are made for men and I'm not equipped for that. bigrazz

What kind of person do you think would keep one?
A lonely guy who can't get a gf?

...
You could look at it like a severe case of vibrator attachment dependance.

Try reading the book Love and Sex with Robots.

Would I take one if I didn't have to pay for it? If it was this one:

That's actually a normal BJD. It's not a sex doll.
BJDs are cute. <3

Oh, I've heard of these things. Pretty creepy. Have you seen the British documentary Real Doll Experiences? It focuses on British and American guys, most of which own dolls from the American company Real Dolls, and through it you will meet some of the most pathetic creatures born of woman.

That "laughing" doll that man had... *shudders* And those anime-style ones wearing maid costumes! D= More bad reputation for otaku!

I find that this looks more realistic. Well, it actually is a doll too, only with machinery in it - which makes it a robot! Freaky and awesome at the same time.

I would never buy one for love/sex though. .__. I like getting affection back. I guess it would be nice to have one as decoration?

"Hey guys, look at my 5000$ real-life doll!" laugh

I don't really like those Actroid things because they're trying to pass them off as robots when they're really just automata, like at Disneyworld. They don't do anything but wave their hands around and talk. Yeah, they have a little weak voice recognition, but so does my phone.

Besides, people have been making stuff like that for over a hundred years.

AHAHAHA NO. I SAID IT WASN'T A SEX DOLL. YOU WEIRDO.
Where do you see an open mouth on that thing? -_-

BJD stands for ball jointed doll. They're about 40-60 cm tall, are popular with gothic lolitas, and have absolutely nothing to do with sex whatsoever, at least not intentionally.

Seriously, man... you're not helping me retain hope for human intelligence...

I was well deceived. But I want it nonetheless.

That's what a robot is! They're robots, not androids.
