Do you feel shy to read manga in a public when you are not a high school uniform student anymore? biggrin

Well, the idea just come up when I read Flower of life. In the end of volume 1, there is something like a advise from the author bigrazz that "The reading of doujinshi in a public setting makes others very uncomfortable (especially other otaku) and should be avoided." cool

Of course it's yay, for me at least. I don't care what people think, nobody is going to keep me from getting my manga-fix biggrin

Yesterday I sat in the train reading Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club, smiling and laughing and all that cool

I don't have any problem with reading it in public. It can sometimes be a good conversation starter. (It can also sometimes be an annoying conversation starter, because you'd rather read than talk to someone about it.) =)

... I generally avoid reading manga in public just because everybody asks what I'm reading and never leaves me alone so i never am able to actually read. They dont know what manga is so they ask non-stop quetions until i have to give up reading sad

I do get embarrassed. I mean, I wouldn't mind reading my mangas in the library, but not anywhere else.

Ya, as ktmeunier and Liria stated, it can be annoying. ._.

I used to read manga in public since I would always take the bus to school, but then I stopped when other passengers would always ask me what I was reading, if it was interesting...blah blah. And there was a time when one of my professors was on the same bus as me and suggested I read a school text book instead of "comics". ;A;

The final straw was when a little girl spilled some of her juice after the bus hit a bump, on a manga I was reading. >__<

I do still read them in libraries and cafes though. O_~

Heh. I don't in the States, but when I'm in Japan I'll read on the trains for sure. Although I do get some people staring at me, but it's usually because I'm a foreigner reading something Japanese than because I'm reading manga in particular. I get the same reaction (well, only moreso) when I'm reading a novel in Japanese in public.

For the record, it's less embarrassing when you've got a cover on your book and people can't really see what you're reading. ^^;

Depends what I'm reading...

XD I joke I joke. I don't have that type of manga in paper format. I read most of my manga on the Internet anyway so it's not exactly public is it.

The manga that I have purchased however, I have read in public before. Like on the tube (usually on the journey back from buying it xD)

Guess it comes with age.

Well, I agree. Maybe they staring at you just because they r curious, not because they r annoyed biggrin.

Anyway, if you read Flower of life you will see that the doujinshi book Majima reading in the public is a really "moeh"biggrin lesbian story made up from the original shojo manga. ^^ I wonder if the cover looks erotic... cool

Fuck yeah, I do. And even better when it's a shojo manga, because you meet some female manga readers (even better if they're really cute)

I will read x-men uncanny on the bus if I remember to grab an issue, but manga, no. I only own a couple and I've read them enough times already.

I did read Wild Adapter while in school once, I got some weird looks from people reading over my shoulder. none

Heh, I was reading a M/M romance PDF in a hentai panel at Dragon*con. The people who were in the row behind me started reading over my shoulder (even though I had the laptop lid down in case people didn't want to be exposed to such things) and they were amused.

If someone have something to say when I'm reading manga in public then he/she can go to deepest pits of hell, I don't care a shit about other's opinion in that matter.

well I don't really read manga in public. Save for at a bookstore. But I don't really take my own collection out the house unless I'm letting a friend borrow something. I prefer stretching out on my bed to read it. Which is a reason i miss my laptop, not as easy stretching out to read on a desktop. :/

I'd probably look at you if you were (I'm nosy, I might come talk to you if it's a series I love or one that's obscure.) But if you're reading hentai/ecchi/yaoi/yuri I'd give you the side eye. eek If you were reading doujin in public I'd look at you too xD Lol must be a serious fan if you're reading doujin. If it's a series I like I might approach and be like where did you buy that? Also, I have noticed people reading manga on their computers at school. Generally shounen.

OP i highly approve of your avi and sig <3 I'm going to suggest to my library that they buy Nodame. eyes
