Quote from Hespia Klarerin
how about fish?
if you're reason for being a vegan is because of animal cruelty, why do you not eat fish??

Well, to be absolutely technical, fish are animals too -- they belong to Kingdom Animalia, Classes Osteichtheis and Chondrychtheis. As for why it's 'cruel' -- have you ever seen how much fish struggle before they eventually suffocate to death (or conversely, are split open with a knife)? And let's not even talk about whale hunting...
Yes, humans are at the top of the food chain. You've gotta be kidding if you say the occasional tiger / bear / cougar attack on a human can be considered a normal predator-prey relationship.

I love animals and am always thoroughly supportive of protecting animal rights, but I'm not vegetarian. I eat meat about once or twice a week; partly because it gives nutrition, diversity and flavour to my meals, but mainly because -- even if I stop eating meat / fish, would it change anything? I think not. If someone promised me that if I became a vegan for the rest of my life, all the slaughtering of animals for meat would stop, I'd do it without a second thought. But since that will never, ever happen, I'll continue to eat meat and fish in small, controlled amounts.

I admire those who become vegetarians / vegans because they feel for animals and denounce the cruelty involved. I don't have any opinions on "completely carnivorous" people or those who become vegans because it's the "in thing" in the diet department. People can do as they see fit, and my getting angry at them will have no detrimental effect on them, but will increase my long-term risk of hypertension...so why bother?

Livers are indeed amazing things. Thoroughly nutritious, and when prepared properly by far amongst the tastiest foods out there. Why do you think Foie Gras is such a delicacy?

Will have to eat lamb brain. I have yet to try that specifically, but with the exception of poorly prepared kidneys (badly cooked kidneys are just catastrophically terribly), all of that stuff does compose the best bits.

Tripe, testicles, brain, tongue, fat, liver, kidneys, marrow - if you know how to cook it, everything is edible.

seriously...
taste have usualy nothing to do with these claims

usualy upperclass ppl with very little to do dictate what is a delicatessen
and they usualy prefer food and drink that is expensive, take long time to make and is rare
taste is not very important

and
to all you braineaters out there i imagine you have problems eating freshsquid right off the ocean or even raw fish or for that matter dogs
so dont go on and on how awesome your filth is coz one persons worst nightmate is another persons favoirte food

Lungs are where it's at!
Fried lungs....mmmmmm

And to quote myself from the other vegetarian thread:

Quote from "Why not eat meat?"
Because some humans prefer to put themselves on the same level as animals and say silly things like "meat is murder" - implying that the slaughter of an animal is equal to that as killing another human being.

Some animals were put on this earth for Man to eat. It's as simple as that.
Quote from Mamsmilk
Just remember to eat healthy kids.
Moralism won't defeat biochemistry.
People go vegan when they are exposed too much to aggravated confrontation and Disney movies. Everything we eat is alive in some sense. Just because plants and such are less like us in structure than animals does not make it any less an ethic choice to end their lives to prolong yours than to eat animals.
You do not eat for an ism, you eat for your body. No matter what you eat, you are directly killing something by eating it and indirectly killing something by competing for food sources.
No matter what you eat or when you eat or how it was born and for what purpose, all living beings aim to stay alive. Every choice you make limits some other life. Even if you grew that stuff yourself, you eat food that some pest could use for the brood.

Pretty much this, really :\

Of course, there are others whose body just can't process meat like everybody else. People with medical conditions that causes them to get ill when they consume meat.

What does eating brains have to do with ANY of those? ._.

My worst nightmare was beetlejuice forcing me to jump off a sky scraper... I didn't know that was edible.

It probably is in one of those dream-based religious tribes... I think they're mostly Australian aborigines. Native Australians? I'm not sure what the politically correct term is.

@taopaipai: Actually "peasant food" is kind of a big thing in the culinary world. And there are dozens upon dozens of cultures that include all of those items in regular, everyday meals. So, no, it's not something explicitly chosen by the elite. When able, people eat what tastes good. The western societal norm of aversion to liver and the like actually has religious roots, but I digress... You probably shouldn't refer to commonly eaten foods as "filth" either, to maintain credibility for that argument.

Besides, I've actually eaten all of those aside from dog, and that's only because the opportunity has yet to present itself. I'll literally give anything a shot. The only thing on my "inedible" list is okra. I just really hate the sliminess of it.

Finally, you know Scy doesn't have an obligation to read all of it, right? It's a choice. Like you reading this. Proper grammar and spelling would give an actual incentive, rather than just my need to procrastinate at the moment.

but the last time i ate the boiled cow liver, it was SOOO bitter!
I don't think many people think bitterness as delicious. or was the liver that i ate particularly bad?

Bitter things can be an acquired taste. I mean, I drink coffee black, and it's usually pretty bitter, but I've grown to enjoy it.

It depends. I personally very much enjoy bitter flavors (coffee, scotch, and yes, liver), but good liver doesn't have to be bitter. It was possibly low quality, poorly cooked, or both.

It's actually pretty easy. I didn't really do it to save the poor animals because they don't know that they're gonna be food anyway but whatever
Just recently eating meat makes me feel really sick so I just stopped. Then I tried soy milk and realized it tasted really good and besides, I also get sick drinking milk. So that's how I became a vegetarian.
