I'm looking for a specific series that I've read but I have no clue as to what the name is.

The main girl in the story is 16 year old, grew up in Australia, and moved to Japan to become a teacher there. She's like, a genius so by the time she gets there she already knows all her students by name and face.

The main guy character once met the main girl in Australia, but doesn't remember her because he was captured by a kangaroo, and he had a high fever at the time.
