The plot to the majority of shoujo manga.
Bulbous, strangely shiny ecchi bodies.
Uber-feminine guys who even act according to insulting feminine stereotypes (yaoi and shounen-ai).
"Bishies" who are forgiven their aggressive and abusive behavior just because they're, like, total dreamboats. *punch wall*

The word "tragedy". I see that in a genre-listing and I'm outta there like Yosemite Sam on fire. biggrin

Sorry, but my heart's too fragile to take tragic stories. I'm lame that way.

laugh OMG i feel exactly the same, it could be a manga with an awesome stoyline but i won't read it if its a tragedy because it too sad...

Also shojo manga, ugly art manga and manga where the main characters parents died or someting - its so cliche i want to vomit - all put me off.

Forgot to also add this to the things that turn me away from manga. Real life is already tragic enough as it is, I don't want it to be in something I enjoy doing as well.

A character I think is well made and interesting getting killed. (Zero In's Kina Monjou, might read it again later because another girl falls for him later)

Yaoi/Shounen Ai (Yuri and Shoujo Ai are okay, they actually seemed to be very popular near the end of 2009)

Historical (Most of them are extremely boring or have art that just annoys me)

Nobody scanning it (happens a lot lately, these guys need to stop over scanning one piece and naruto and pickup some other good series)

hentai and doujinshi

yaoi with a cover, where a bishounen is harassing a shota

shoujo with big eyes, sparkles, etc.

smut

too much ecchi

something from a mangaka, which manga I hated

hiatus and discontinued status-this

and I usually don´t read oneshots and short manga.

1) Bad art--definetly---even if the plot is good, if art is bad m gna drop it. I mean I could just read a novel, the unique thing about manga is art and datz a big factor for me.

2) Shounen romance where the main character--the dude is an insult to all guyz out there--the typical wimpy character devoting his entire life to dis one selfish girl-- such as dat dude in Suzuka.

3) When characters in romance mangas are dense, a bit is ok but when they are really oblivious, god i hate it.

4) Gender-bender mangas where girl cross-dresses as a guy to be close to an idol/dude wateva like Hana Kimi. datz wayyy too desperate.

5) Mangas where the girl fallz in love with the dude without even talking to him or knowing much about him.

6) mangas which go on and on about something, like manga keepz repeating dat idea over and over again

7) Any manga which has a wimpy character who does not change throughout the series. Though when they do change I really like da manga like Holyland, Breaker etc...

Mainly 2 things:

1)extremely cliched plot
2)extremely LINEAR plot
3)pantsu manga where its not needed (well this happens more in anime adaptations, unfortunately)
4)manga in which the main char (boy) is extremely shy and like "repels" any type of approach from the girls (like SCREAMING/fainting/etc)...wtf are you gay or what? There isnt a boy like this on earth, mangakas!

- unrealistic storylines, especially if it's a romance, if it's a comedy then i'm cool with it.
- annoying main character that makes me want to slap them silly.
- jerks. if a guy is bossy, rude and in charge of a girl in a story, DROP.
- sloppy dialogue, where I cannot follow what is going on.
- cliches and stereotypes thrown in repeatedly, first couple of times it's ok but a cliche in 43543 times in a volume....-.-
- anything that offends me.
- weak female lead.
''no, no!'' - when bf/love interest starts to rape the heroine and she just goes 'no, no' and then stays in the relationship/falls in love H9PRSEW5T-093465TE!!!

and probably other things too if I remember.

-stereotypical character introduced
-too many characters introduced
-bad art
-weak female leads (already mentioned though!)
-too many words
-crappy start
-when it says rushed/axed endings in a manga's genre
-when it says on hiatus in a manga or unscanlated
-when the comments on the manga say the manga is bad
-too lazy to say more so I will just say that I agree with PoshSam (and I actually do agree):

I don't know exactly what. I just read it, If it makes me want more than it's good if not than is not for me and I dropped it. Usually I need about 10 chapters to figure if it's worth reading or not.

- Harem (I didn't find it entertaining or funny) no

- Very weak shoujo characters (Its really unrealistic and unworthy to read the kind of manga with this)

- Too much blah-blah-blahs

- very obvious cliches especially on Shounen mangas

- weak or uninteresting or confusing storyline

- bad art style

- oozing with ecchiness and too much fan-service! mad

- unrealistic storylines especially on shoujo manga

- The personality of some characters are quite too complex and unrealistic

- In shoujo, a girl who fall in love to a bad-guy lead then makes his girl a tool of pleasure (ULTIMATE TURN-OFF!!!) mad mad

- Lack of substance in story

- Categories: Shounen-Ai, Yaoi and Horror put me off (Depends on what kind of Horror, if it's really paranormal then yes. Only if it's soft Horror than I'm ok with it.)

- How good the animation/drawing of it plays a big role in why I continue to read it or not. If the animation/drawing is really bad then I won't bother reading it.

- If it's a Harem, Reverse Harem, Romance and or Ecchi manga/anime and the male/female protagonist is a user of the people that like/love them, that puts me off.

I drop them if I can't relate to the characters. For me to care about the manga, I have to care about the characters, too. If I don't, then I find myself not really giving a damn about what happens.

Another turn-off for me is SUPER unrealistic characters. *Cough* Desire Climax *Cough*And ditsy girls.

i don't "Drop"..i just don't read it to begin with...)
Description+cover and u can alrdy understand whats it about..=|
Though mostly it's because of the art style,it's something no one can explain...u just simply don't like it,and u can't do anything about it=|

And i don't read Historical, sports and mostly all of the gender-bender(there are exceptions though)

- Gratuitous sex scenes, nudity, sexually suggestive dialogue and stories/ characters who are made to glorify the 'sex is the ultimate form of love' concept are the #1 turn-offs for me in ANY form of fiction (manga, novels, movies, anime).

- Ecchi, harem / reverse harem and art that is meant to be solely fan-service-y are #2.

- 'Love polygons' of any kind or description takes third place.

- Overtly sweet, sappy, "I'll-give-up-my-life-for-you-darling" type of romances.

- Tired, over-used stereotypes (in both characters and story-lines) and plots which have obviously been 'borrowed' from other people's works.

- And of course, the 'rushed ending / axed' category.
