Heh... first time I've heard of stuff like that. But then again, it's the internet. They may or may not be otaku. But I also think that some of these people are likely "trolls" seeking to flame the discussions. It's easy to be a troll online/offline: you don't have to know the topic first-hand, you just have to make certain mean and horrible comments meant to incite and hurt others.

Just blow things out of proportion, throw in enough anger to come off as a "overtly passionate and obsessed fan" and there you go: you sound like a "hardcore fan". laugh

From real-life experience, I've also encountered people who use "random topics" as a place for venting their anger. It's very very common in parts of Asia, btw. Because certain Asian societies stress so much on conformity and "blah blah blah", that there's often no outlet for people to express themselves. So, when they find something convenient, all that anger comes out. And because it's common for Asians to "assimilate by adapting different identities", so they often feel little to no guilt for pretending to be someone.

Bottomline: people can be mean.

Yes, my point was that not liking the direction of a manga is more akin to a soup that's not to your taste than one that has a fly in it. Also, there's a difference between making a complaint and being abusive.

No it's not. You can order a different soup if you don't like it. In fact, why would you order something you don't like? Ideally, you would order something you actually LIKE to eat unless you're ordering something you don't like just for the sake of complaining (I doubt they buy 10 copies per volume just to voice their dissatisfaction).

No, it's more akin to, you order something you like (the soup/manga) and you receive something you're dissatisfied with (the fly/the direction).

There is a difference between being unsatisfied with something you've paid for and expressing an opinion showing your distaste, and sending death threats to the producer of whatever you are unsatisfied with. It's a matter of degrees, and what is acceptable and not in society. These otaku are so blinded by their alternate world that they don't even see how what they are doing is wrong. Fine, stop buying the series if you don't like it, even send mail telling her you're unhappy with it. But sending threatening emails, just because you're living in a fantasy land and picturing yourself as the main character and his female love interest as your own, is not something you have a right to do as a fan of something, no matter how much you support it financially.

Otaku's buy a lot of stuff. In fact they spend on the those supporting mangaka items 4-5 times more than an average fan so they really do buy stuff, even more than most of us

Well some of them stopped buying it after the offensive chapters were out but the 'damage' was already done, you have to comprehend that before you start psuhing off how silly they are.

I do not like the reaction this caused, but I also do not like the authors weakness displayed - it will make just more fan-hate towards her because she showed that she bleed she bleeds. If you grab controversy themes then be ready to suck it up, if not - then avoid such controversy to begin with.

I can understand the unhappiness with the author but I do not think the hatred was the best expression for that. But author should learn to suck it up or do not escalate such themes if she pisses in her pants from the sightliest hateful reaction it causes (it really wasn't as big as with Evangelion or Kannagi).

*confusion* i thought the main charactor was the other girl?

Otakus really do get alittle crazy over stupid things. Even if the main charactor had done all those things, its a bit nutty to harase the author? It gives the manga a more authentic feel to do that anyhow...rather than everything turning tits up for him laugh Crazy people...

wasn't Kurokawa herself not virgin ?
the only virgin females were ironically the aggressive Eri (she's hanging alot with Izumi maybe she's not anymore?) and the buxom Oonuma
well a virgin male protagonist with 2 non-virgin females love interest is a refreshing/realistic change

i wonder why the Otakus fussed over chou-chan having hickey in ch16
while the flashback from ch11 imply that Kurokawa isn't a virgin (or is it just my imagination dead )

Ok maybe its because with the innocent personality of Chou-chan it seems like it's not in her character to sleep with someone just days after they started dating and the readers thought that was forced by the author and unnatural (and that's why they hated the author this much)??

lol... another kannagi scene...

Have to agree that otakus went to far, but their rage is kinda understandable. Most read manga to escape reality, so of cos they want an ideal world in the manga.

Though our current generation finding an ideal pure virgin wife is like looking for a needle in a haystack, and i can accept that but whats worse if you found our that your girlfriend who you love is a slut and had slept with your friends before and god knows if she had a gangbang or shiet, i would get into a rage.

They say love conquers all and if i love her it wouldn't matter but truth is, the past is always there, you can't change it ever, its like a scar. People change but your past is always clinging onto you, and your're forever dragging it from your shadow. And god knows if a person is able to really change and not revert to the past. "Change" itself is fickle minded, its hard to change for the better but its even easier to change back to your past...

Though this is not an exact replica/explanation of the current otaku situation but its somewhat close to it... in any case each to his/her own...

now ch66 confirm my doubts that kurokawa isn't a virgin
but i didn't see that coming (the incident)
maybe the last chapters are the response of the mangaka against all this nonsense
but the most probable is that the issue that is dealt with is planned from the start
or is the core of this story about how to love a person without concern of all that past stuff and society
or else (if the mangaka chose the easier route) this manga will turn out just as any other romantic comedy out there

It's quite obvious that this whole "virgin" issue runs deeper than otaku harassment.

This manga is going downhill. Primarily because the two main girls are sluts that had sex, so now they want more and keep going back to their abusive boyfriends instead of staying with the main character. No, they're not sluts because they're not virgins. They're sluts cause they liked the sex so much that they went back to their pimps so they can be treated like dirt again... because they're better at sex than Utsumi is.

There's a reason shounen romances have virgin girls. And this manga is a prime example of why you DON'T have non-virgin heroines. This manga is a serious drama trainwreck.

Wow..you're calling them sluts simply because they had sex with someone they were in love with? Seriously? Do me, and yourself, a favor. Get a damn dictionary and look up "slut"..educate yourself. Moreover, where did it ever say they "went back to their pimps" in the manga? :/

Heh..this person's post proves that extreme otaku aren't just found in Japan...

Also, there was someone earlier stating that otaku meant "extremely obsessed"...they were full of sh!t. Otaku merely means "nerd; geek; enthusiast". If you really like something, you're an otaku of it. These people were extremist otaku in the OP's story..not just otaku.

(Note: this post is mostly trolling.)

This reminds me of a paper I read named "why the people of Japan were chosen by the sun god". The paper basically explained that the island of Japan is easy to nuke with limited damage to the rest of the world. Thus being the perfect spot for these chosen people. I think an updated version of the paper would include the topic of "self nuking". As alexdhamp pointed out, the sun god obviously missed a few people like coolxal and me.

I agree with coolxal. Women who like sex are sluts. Furthermore, like coolxal, I'm afraid that women who enjoy sex won't like me because I suck at sex or am a virgin who is afraid of sucking at sex.

Women who like sex are not sluts. Women who engage in sex with multiple partners are sluts. A woman that likes sex but only has one partner is not a slut, she's merely a human woman with a healthy sex drive. :/

and why would having sex with multiple partners mean having an unhealthy sex drive?

also, why would slut be considered derogatory at all?

Because the word itself is a derogatory?
Was your head screwed on properly when asking such a silly question?

worded it wrong: *why should slut be considered as derogatory by anyone who isn't a male chauvinist/has double standards?*

Because it's the intended usage of the word. Otherwise you'd just say "promiscuous" or something of the sort. Regardless of what the original intention of the word was, that's what it is now. Virtually no one ever says "idiot" and literally intends to suggest that a person has an IQ lower than 20 (it would be rather difficult to function).

Words have baggage. There's a distinct difference between f*ck and copulate. This is essentially the same thing.

so, why would sleeping with several different partners make a woman a slut instead of promiscuous?

(this is pretty much what i've been trying to say, english isn't my native language and i'm not very good at expressing myself with it)
