hello, I'm looking for a more serious police/detective manga, something similar to the real world.

Preferably if it follows the person as he gains reputation and where his career actually moves forwards, and doesn't just stay the same throughout the whole manga

when I mean serious its more that it is realistic, no supernatural or the such please

Thanks! biggrin

The detective is only a side character and it's not what I'd call realistic.

Shibatora is about a police who deals with crimes involving minors. Although it has a little bit of supernatural in it (really, just a little), it's an awesome police/detective manga as a whole.
Ottori Sousa also works as a police/detective manga, not so sure about the moving-up-the-ranks bit, though.

Maybe Domu, but its a oneshot so there's no 'moving up the ranks' involved. There's two characters with psychic abilities, but its done in a realistic manner so it shouldn't bother you.

maybe you could also try manhole. even though it follows only one (main and only) case, it is solid police work.
perhaps also Seizon - Life. father decides to solve the dissapearance of his daughter. what you have in the story is also fairly realistic detective footwork.
