My least Favorite would have to be the anime version of Samurai Deeper Kyo. The characters were all bland, and it lost most of the humor that was there in the manga. Not to mention the plot changes, which are inevitable, but these were pretty big. Also most of the fights were animated with still images for some reason (cheaper probably). So what's your least favorite Anime adaptation of a manga, or vice versa.

Ultra Maniac was a pain and a half. OK, take a short and decent shoujo high school romance with a touch of the supernatural and turn it into a full-blown magical girl series, complete with tranformation sequence, flying scooter, bitchy rival and mission to collect "holy stones", absolutely NONE of which was in the original at all. OK, it was mildly amusing and I quite liked the ending theme, but as an adaptation it was outright shocking.

I ABHORRED the anime version of Lament of the Lamb. It's one of my favourite manga, but apart from changes to the plot (including a lot of dropped material) the animation is just plain terrible. Toume's delicate character designs were rendered as lifeless and ugly; Yaegashi went from having eyes that were vaguely catlike in the manga to looking as if she'd been repeatedly punched and Chizuna looked like she'd been sucking on a lemon. And Kazuna's 'attacks' were rendered as him holding his head and looking freaked out in front of a dirty speedline background- every single time. I hated it so much that I didn't bother watching it after the first episode, it was just that much of an eyesore.

The xxxHOLiC TV series got me down too. The changes to some of the episodes didn't bother me too much, but when I skipped ahead in the series and realised they didn't even TOUCH on the arc about Watanuki's eye, Jorou-gumo and the Zashiki-warashi, I just gave up. It was the best part of the manga, how could they not do it?!

And finally, the Eyeshield 21 anime is just awful in every regard. Every change it makes and every piece of filler it adds is complete rubbish, the animation is pathetic and completely fails to capture the feeling of power and speed in the manga and the production values (including the voice acting, apart from Hiruma) are woeful. Worst of all are the changes that are just plain stupid or canonically impossible (a play that calls for Monta to throw the ball? And it WORKS?!)

Additionally, although it's not based on a manga but a visual novel game, I was really depressed with Phantom the animation (adapted from the game known in the west as Phantom of Inferno). It was one of those short, low-budget 2 episode OAVs which hastily attempts to summarise a small part of the original source material by including a lot of stupid changes. The game kicks so much ass and the anime is just so crap, it makes me weep. Give us a full length TV series adaptation, dammit!

. . .i sorta like eyeshield 21 anime T_T. Then again i didn't read the manga
anyhow, i haven't read a manga for which the anime adaptation i didn't like. except for one. GTO was god awful. seriously, i adore the manga, but i thought that the anime which for the most part was not the same stories used in the manga, did not do well in capturing GTO. other than that i guess Berserk and Hajime no Ippo, because although both animes were good, they felt very very cut off at the end, especially Berserk (-_-).
