I hope this isn't weird...

anyone know a nicely drawn shojo or josei manga where the male lead is a smoker but is not a bad guy or a player? I think the idea that smoker = delinquent is a little extreme so I am looking for something more realistic. What I'm looking for is something like Nasukawa-san from Cousin in terms of personality and art.

Also Takano-san from Hotaru no Hikari is an example of the personality type that i'm talking about (the art for Hotaru no Hikari is OK and actually, this pic is not so reflective of how the art in Hotaru no Hikari is for most of the time, it's actually a lot better in this panel. Cousin is a better example of what I like)

Basically a smoker with a laid-back personality but not a delinquent. biggrin

Badou from Dogs smokes a lot... And he has a laid-back attitude when he does... But he starts freaking out when there are no cigarettes, so I don't know whether he could be called a delinquent or not. But in my opinion he's one of the best manga characters smile

Oh, I didn't notice you were looking for a shoujo or josei. But you may still like Dogs, scenes with Badou are quite funny smile

Mayama from honey and clover and Chiaki from nodame cantabile seem to fit your requirements, plus they are both really really good mangas.

Goshima-sensei from Kiss

Subaru from Watashi no Ookami-san; their story is continued in volume three and following of dear

Not sure if this is the art style you had in mind, but they have that personality type.

Thanks @scarletrhodelia. I think the story for Kiss interesting so I will try it. And the personality really fits what I am looking for. As far as the art, I think it's something that I can get used to... although it's hard to get over how their top lip looks like its been erased in the middle; do you know what i mean?
Watashi no ookami-san is not really what I am looking for but thank you.

Mademoiselle Butterfly
Ai Hime
Nana
Hot Gimmick She catches Ryoki smoking once...

There are so many "maybes..." that I can think of but I don't want to send you out on a hunch.

Asano Inio's works come to mind. Though it it's labeled as seinen, Solanin would be a good bet. It'll surely appeal to you if you'd normally like a serious josei, too.
