Quote from Dr. Love Although I already mentioned it here in the thread, I volunteer myself if there should be any "tagging mod team". D: There are a lot of tags that should just be deleted right away. o.o;;
Any subjective ones should be immediately deleted like "adults behaving badly" or "quirky character". We could also open a "Tags" thread where people could discuss which tags are useful or not.
I think this is a good idea because there are tags that I believe are completely ridiculous like the "facial scar" one.

But isn't this the kind of specific/subjective stuff that people search for in the "I'm Looking for" section? I think at least some of them should stay. Even if the definition is a bit unclear, most people will intuitively know what it means. (I'm thinking specifically of the "Strong Female Lead" tag.)

Maybe someone has a fetish?
(Oh, and, I didn't add any subjective tags myself...just, you know, in case that wasn't clear...)

Is there a way to disable the Categories because i feel like it's could be a way to spoil a series. I hate it when something spoiled, and just makes me not want to read it. This could either make this site more Versatile, or make it worse, although it's a Great idea, i would still like to be able to disable it.
So In conclusion you should make it an option for it not to show up on the page.

Go to Edit Profile, you can choose to hide the categories under Hide Series Categories by default?

True, but it is still subjective, therefore it can be misleading. But either way if people disagree they can just vote. <_>

Wow, I haven't checked in for a few days, and look what happens. This is a fabulous feature. I can see it not replacing "looking for..." threads, but complementing them, as it will be a long time, if ever, before the database is fully tagged.
Just browsing the list, I'd like to add my comments: * I'm with the capitalization police. Capitalization should also be consistent within multi-word tags, either all significant words capitalized or none. Ex. 'Female Fighters' and 'Figure Skating' but 'Fraternal twin' and 'Freedom fighters'. I would prefer both words capitalized. * Plurality should be consistent, as in above examples it should be either 'Female Fighter' or 'Fraternal Twins.' I think I prefer singular, but either works. * I'd like to see more hyphenation, as in 'Sword Wielding Heroine' should be 'Sword-Wielding Heroine' and 'TeacherTeacher Relationship' (which needs at least a space) should be 'Teacher-Teacher Relationship'. * Lastly, I have an issue with some colloquial tags, particularly 'Big boobs' and 'Small boobs'. How about 'Large-Breasted' and 'Small-Breasted'?

Just out of personal preferance, but I'd like to see a "Include/Exclude" option in the advanced search page for the categories =D
Agreeing with grammar/punctuation/diction/etc suggestions.
EDIT: And some tags... "triangle" and "love triangle" "brothel" and "prostitute" "demon' and "devil" "Mafia" "Yakuza" "Gangster" "Delinquent"
they barely have different meanings >< Could always combine into Demon/Devil or something =/

There's a genre and a tag for Martial Arts. Seems kind of redundant to me...
Also, I don't know if I'm overdoing it with the tags. For example I put around 8 on Berserk but when I check series like Bleach or Naruto there's only 1 or 2!

There are really no rules ... at least we haven't made any yet--so feel free to tag as you wish. We're kinda just sitting back for a few days and seeing how it unfolds before we start policing it.
As far as database inconsistencies .. we're working on some methods for handling capitalization/etc.

Categories disappearing? Or maybe it's an opera bug? I added tags to this series
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=52008
And they disappeared. I added general/obvious tags like "tsundere" etc, also.

What does everyone think of cyborgs? Does it deserve its own tag, or can it be lumped under "Androids"?
To my understanding, androids have computerized brains and human-like bodies, while cyborgs have human brains with mechanized body part(s).

Quote from Conquestor There's nothing in the log saying you added them ...
You made sure to hit the "Add" button after typing in the text, and then hitting the "Update Series" button afterward, right?

Ah, that would be my problem. I think I just added the tags then clicked the back button on my browser.

I added the tag 'Artbook' to about a dozen series, since it's something I would look for myself, and I checked it worked and all and it did, but I just looked for the tag now and it's disappeared. Is there a reason that would happen?

In the series info pages there is a section for "Type" which can be changed to artbook. You can already search for artbooks in the advanced genre search.
