I added the tag 'Artbook' to about a dozen series, since it's something I would look for myself, and I checked it worked and all and it did, but I just looked for the tag now and it's disappeared. Is there a reason that would happen?

In the series info pages there is a section for "Type" which can be changed to artbook. You can already search for artbooks in the advanced genre search.

Huh. You know, I've used this site pretty extensively for the last 3+ years and never realised the genre search would do that ^^;

I wonder though, is there anyway that could be made clearer? Because reading the search parameters without having read your reply, I would have never thought that would allow me to search 'Type' by itself rather than just limiting a genre search (which is what I always assumed it did)

Also, wouldn't it be better if the Adult tags were differentiated from the normal ones? Like having "Adult" from them. I mean, I'm sure there's a tag Schoolgirl somewhere, and I don't think people will want a lot of Hentai in it. :'/ So, instead we should have a normal Schoolgirl tag, and then a "Adult - Schoolgirl" tag, if you follow me.

All the adult tags will have "Adult" in front of it, like...

Adult - Schoolgirl
Adult - Teacher (lots of smutty Yaoi could fit in here too)
Adult - Military (the "Military" tag already has many Yaoi, I'm sure some of them are smutty, so might as well move them to this tag... People could get put off by clicking on "military" and suddenly seeing lots of Yaoi)
Adult - x
...
Adult - Urethra Insertion roll (you know that tags like these will eventually pop up, so might as well put them in an organized manner, so that people who aren't really... interested in them could easily avoid them.)

These adult tags could be used for very smutty Yaoi (and perhaps, Yuri -- although they're generally not that smutty, there's Yuri Hentai for that) too.

This even could be really useful for the BL fandom, if they want to look for Yaoi that doesn't focus on the smut or just any weird stuff, so could they just filter the "Adult" category out if they want (if a category filter function ever comes to existence).

It could make a mess out of the "A" category section though. For people who don't want that, I have a better alternative. The "X" category section is at the moment completely empty, and I doubt there'd be many tags starting with an "X". So, why don't we reserve that for the Adult ones? Like, instead of Adult, put "XXX" or something?

xxx - Schoolgirl.

I'll just go ahead if no one minds? I know that a lot of Hentai peepz would find it useful! D:

I have a question about voting for categories. I understand that I'm voting for the appropriateness of the category for the work in question, but what if I think the category itself has a problem (poor syntax, spelling, etc.) Should I vote for the category and hope it gets fixed somewhere down the line, or add what I think is a corrected version and hope my change gets adopted?

Dr Love, I disagree... I don't want to do that. We have "Adult" genres, etc, that people can use to tell if a series is a Adult, and you can simply do a category/genre search where you exclude Adult, but include the specific categories you want.

scar, You can submit a change request if you find a spelling error for now in the User CP.

I don't know what exactly "Love Polygon" is supposed to mean. At first I thought it would be like for harem series, where 1 person has many love interests. But then I thought that it wouldn't look like a polygon if you drew them out.

So is it supposed to be something like A likes B who likes C who likes D who likes A? Or what I thought before, with B & C & D all liking A?

I'm thinking of it like A likes B who likes C who likes D who likes A.
Like Ranma 1/2:

Akane, Shampoo, and Ukyo are engaged to Ranma. Kodachi likes Ranma but there's no formal engagement. Kuno likes female Ranma and Akane. Ryoga and various lesser characters like Akane. Mousse likes Shampoo. Tsubasa and Konatsu like Ukyo. Ranma and Akane like each other but don't really admit it. Very complicated.

The number of categories have stopped growing for a few. I think it's about time to eliminate and merge some categories. I thing almost the categories that have only 1 manga should be elminated and there are some obvious double categories such as "high school" and "school".... Besides, I think there are some categories need extra explanation.

Sorry if there are mistakes in my English.
This my suggestion for organizing the categories since I think the categories is really a mess right now. We put some tags in same the narrow groups (similar to how control pannel folder appear in window vista/7)

Quote
*Characters:
_Male lead pesionailties
+Arrogant
+Clumsy
+Good for nothing
+Mature
+Cofident
+Cold heart

_Male lead backgroud
+Child abuse
+Dark part
...
_Female lead
+Strong female lead
+Fighter
+Glasses
+Tsundere
+Shy
....

*Theme:
_Carrier
+Police
+Detective
+Doctor
....
_Fighting
+Yokai
+Shinigami
+Church and exorcist
+

_Sport
+Soccer
+Baseball
....

*Main characters relationship
+Teacher student
+Master-servant
+Classmate
+Childhood friend
+Family
...
*Enviroment:
_School:
+High school...

_College

_Office

_Restaurant
....

Other tag:

It's just a few examples. I think it's easier to find the tag we are looking for instead of try to find out the words and also avoid similar and unnecessary tags.

I'm working on a system to associate tags with each other, so that they are essentially the same thing. We'll see what happens... might take me a while though, I'm a bit busy with other things.

Yeah, I dropped that idea~ D:

Though hmm, another useful suggestion would be having to fill a mandatory description box when you add a new tag, no matter how obvious the tag is.

I ask this, because there seems to be troubles in the interpretation department. roll For example: "European Stylized" contains manga that take place in Europe while that is completely not the purpose of the tag. They're talking about fantasy manga where the buildings are heavily influenced by European architecture (19th Century, mainly).

See: FMA, D. Gray-Man, Übel Blatt, ...

WRONG EXAMPLES

Emma, Bradherley no Basha, ...

They can't be "stylized" as European, since they already are European. >_>;;

Other people have suggested this but I definitely think a description box would be very helpful. It would help to narrow down the precise meaning of the category, as some are quite ambiguous, helping to stop tags being misused. Obscure tags like "8059" or "jjong" are the kinds of things I just have no idea what they mean and need clarification (and what the hell is 'carbonated drunk'?!)

We also need to ensure that subjective tags are eliminated, such as "epicness" and 'hilarious' and 'not very smutty'. That is precisely not what the system is for. And also repeats of genres are very annoying. I think there needs to be some sort of way that certain tags like that are automatically rejected when suggested, because otherwise there'll be people continuing to tag a series with a stupid tag even after someone has removed it for being ridiculous. Perhaps they could be moderated by the community in general, and if it achieves a certain amount of "agreed with"s, it would become 'fixed' and no longer possible for just anyone to remove it, while a tag with many "disagreed with"s would be removed (or referred to someone like a mod to be removed).

But indeed, I like the categories feature a lot ^^

I created two categories the other day, both subdivisions of the crossdressing category. Many people who read crossdressing and gender bender manga only like female as male or male as female. Just saying "crossdressing" is no help to me, for example, who hates male dressed as female manga. I love female dressed as male manga. So I created:

Female Dressed as Male
Male Dressed as Female

The male as female one still exists, but the female as male has disappeared (just recreated it). It seems quite straightforward and without problem to my mind. Any idea why it disappeared? Did someone already make a similar category under a different tag? I put a lot of work into remembering all the girls dressed as guy manga I could and tagging them.

And along those lines, I think it would be wise to have some kind of check or approval system on tags and categories. Lots of people are putting things that make no sense or not checking what previously existed. That would require a lot of work though and may not be feasible.

Maybe you should try "Crossdressing (Female)" and "Crossdressing (Male)", female dressed as male could just mean tomboy or a girl dressed in male clothing without trying to pretend to be the other gender or something like that, just IMHO.

Also, I have a question: There are a lot of manga based off video games, so should there be a "video game" tag? (Still pending approval, but this tag system sounds cool)

That is indeed true. But lots of times they dress in male clothing and get mistaken as males, and aren't really crossdressing. It's quite a confusing category. Crossdressing (Female) would be too ambiguous I think. It would have to be Crossdressing (Female as Male) to make it specific enough, I think. If you just saw Crossdressing (Male), you wouldn't know if it was male or female crossdressing.

I wonder what opinion others have on this matter, hm...
