actually shocked to not see a topic for this, well, since there's one for the Shoujo side...so what was your first ever shounen.

Mine was Ranma 1/2 and no regrets because to this day I enjoy it, and it's not one of the obvious ones like Dragonball, which was my second btw.
First Shounen anime was Dragonball Z, it was on Cartoon Network all the time.

Ha~! Ranma 1/2 here as well, volume 2 actually which was more than a bit confusing! laugh Ranma was actually my very first manga ever.

I have the whole set & still enjoy it a lot, though I have since learned that some of the things that seemed like "random strangeness" are actually manga cliches, or parodies of manga cliches.

I don't remember the second etc. manga I read, though. none

Funny thing about this topic.

The first Shounen I read was also Ranma 1/2 , probably because it stood out in the graphic novel, and from there, my interest in manga (and anime) grew from there.

0.o this is creepy my friend, as I had started with vol 2 aswell, woah....because my library had only that one at the time and I picked it up on a whim.

Exactly the same for me - that yellow cover caught my eye & I remembered hearing my brother talk about it, so I figured "what the heck, I'll give it a try". laugh

My boys tell me that Dragonball was our second manga (we all started reading manga together), but I've never actually read the whole series.

This is creepy....

First shounen manga I ever read was also Ranma 1/2. I saw it at the library and thought I would give it a try. Also picked it up because I had been watching Pokemon recently, and to my 10 yr. old eyes the art looked the same. So I picked it up and havent stopped reading manga ever since.

Mine was Trigun. It just came out in the US and I recognized it and bought. It was my first manga I bought. But the weird thing is I still haven't finished buying the series.

hahahah this is really messed up because my first manga ever was Ranma 1/2 also. i used to only be into anime and i watched all 162 episodes and all like 12 OVA's and all 3 movies and was upset with the after taste it left me by only being halfway finished. so i watched all 162 episodes 12 OVA's and 3 movies over again right away and it left me with an even bigger bad after taste. at the point i was like screw this and read the manga....WOAH...now i read manga all the time...its a strange one but veryy veryyy goood!!

For anime, it would have to be Dragonball.
For manga, it's really a bunch of series as I started with the first U.S. issue of Shonen Jump, which had the the last chapter of the Frieza arc in Dragonball as well as the first chapters of One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sandland and YuYu Hakusho. Naruto was in the second issue.
