Maybe the people who watch it, but I think the people who make it do good work, I'd rather have these pedophiles roped up like this than to actually meet a 12 year old boy/girl...

Although the reasons are irrelevant to the good it causes, the point I believe is 3-fold...
1. Money.
Obviously, this drives 99% of all television.
2. To protect little boys and girls from getting raped.
Duh.
3. To send a message.
Other than the immediate benefit of stopping a single predator in his tracks, other pedophiles will see/hear about this and back off.
