I'm looking for a manga where the current protagonist killed (or atleast is partially responsible for the death of) the supposed/previous protagonist and becomes the new protagonist (may or may not be a backstory that's told really early)

ie.
Shin Angyo Onshi
Gantz...I think, I've not read this in a while

im not too sure by what exactly you mean because i havent (at least i dont think) i have encountered a manga precisely like your description and im a bit confused at how the whole thing works. but i think you may be looking for something like Threads of Time, but i cant tell you how it fits because its a major spoiler.

you should try it out anyways, the description is a little long and strange? but i dont even read shounen or whatever it is and i liked it. try it! its action packed and interesting.

I wanted to suggest Basara, but you are already reading it... Wild Adapter is like this, but you may not like it since it's a bit shounen-ai.

This isn't an answer to your request, but I think you may like Monster and 20th Century Boys by Urasawa Naoki. There are many characters that are something like protagonists, sometimes they die. Well, it's hard to explain what I mean, but you could try these smile

Thanks guys, I've already read Tsubasa and Thread of Time though, as well as Monster...I'll try to articulate a little more on what I meant.

In Shin Angyo Onshi, the first chapter presents a traveling pretty boy saving a girl from getting trampled, I thought he was going to be the protagonist...but this assumption turned out false as he was (actually a she) actually the witch that ruled the town and her head guard killed her and turned out to be the protagonist.

I don't mind any genre other than shota/loli. Shounen-ai, shoujo ai, yaoi and yuri are all fine.
Gonna go read Wild Adapter and more of 20th Century Boys now...

What a unique request...but a very tricky one!

I think Vampire Juujikai has something like that in the beginning.
There's also Domu - but I'm not so sure about that one.
Glory Age is a stretch, because the 2nd hero doesn't really 'kill' the first one in the sense you're talking about...but well, read it and see- it's only 3 volumes long.

Edit-
Whoops- sorry; I didn't notice earlier, but you've already read Vampire Juujikai...Hopefully the other two suggestions will be of some help to you.

Oh, I didn't know you were already reading Monster and 20th Century Boys... either you didn't have them on your lists or I didn't notice it... but at least I was right that you might like them ^^'

Yeah, that was a quite HUGE WTF moment and is one of the reasons I love Shin Angyo Onshi, to think there is something similar out there... well I don't think there is... and if there is, I have yet to find it... Übel Blatt gave me a similar feeling, so you may like it.

Majin makes you believe the protagonist is someone else, but he isn't... and yeah in that one Oh great!! also pulls a few out his ass... luckily is not long enough to become a major problem.

Dokuhime has that (it's in the second chapter), though it's josei and there's not any action or anything XD

Oh, and Arago also has it, to a degree.
