I couldn't get past the whole... capturing/destroying-monsters-with-a-box thing.

Maybe that's why I stopped at volume 3 =\

Kekkaishi isn't underrated anymore. Over 1,200 people have it on their reading list, thousands of downloads for every new chapter.

Almost everybody knows what Kekkaishi is now.

And a lot of those people are calling it "good/great/godly/(insert compliment here)".

Back when only kmts was doing it, sure, calling Kekkaishi underrated would be a fair statement. But not anymore.

10/10

I just like how the story unfolds and the fights are handled. I find Yoshimori and Tokine adorable, not to mention Yoshimori's crush on Tokine XD Everything is just well dosed. I don't know for others but Kekkaishi is far better than Naruto or Bleach for me. Incredible that there is not even one single character I find annoying, unlike the other series I've been reading. oh I just wish it would get updated soon T__T

o.0 I don't think I'd like this manga as much if the main character looked...erm...how should I put this since I'm a guy...more handsome?

Just doesn't fit his personality/actions of those around him towards him. Wouldn't fit, and would make Kekkaishi worse sad

I agree that it used to be really underrated but i've noticed more variety in the groups that release chapters and a shorter waiting period in between the releases.
Im pumped now that its getting more popular and i can't wait till the next set of releases! (it seems that they tend to come in waves..?)

Quote from Daedalus
Not sure how Fullmetal Alchemist outranks Kekkaishi in popularity unless the anime makes that big of a difference. I have not watched many eps of the anime but I'm hoping once it gets officially licensed here in US and maybe gets some airtime on Cartoon Network it can begin to enjoy the success of FMA as Kekkaishi is one of the most refreshing shonen manga ever. It really complements Naruto and where that manga has now matured into a more nuanced serious manga..Kekkaishi packs the action and growing conspiracy that Naruto part one featured in spades. Great read!!

FMA is an awesome series. not such a big fan of naruto however. i still read it, but i can see kekkashi outranking naruto making sense. it also seems to have a crazy amount of releases, which is really nice.

imho I think Naruto's better than Kekkaishi but I also believe its quite underrated. But say after 2 volumes, provided the author can keep up and not stagnate like in DGM, it will get its worthy fame... roll eyes

....Kekkaishi is awesome....I stumbled upon it on accident...I think its underrated, as It had over 250 chapters scanslated by the time i even realized it existed and thought to read it....better than Naruto? No....but I think it should definitely take Bleach's place in the big three...

You must be fucking retarded if you actually think this is underrated. With it's reading activity stats that stays in the top 100 most active manga along with plenty of attention from manga translators, I say this garbage is pretty popular.

Then again more than half the fans are probably narutard fanboys. Pitiful laugh

@Onurb Keitaro: yup that is true kekaishi is more better than naruto..... but i'm not sure bout FMA tough bigrazz

one example: read kekkaishi chapter 121 page 2 - 8 .. and then compare it to naruto chapter 450 page 5 - 6 biggrin
Spoiler (highlight to view)
it's like seeing a beautiful scenery then compare it to a garbage dump site.... jk

@xGunner1: yes it is underrated, no it's not garbage, and i don't think people rate manga just by their activity stats.

and people, keep in mind that this thread is started at 2007... at a time where we could see clearly how underrated kekkaishi is.

I think it's more overrated rather than underrated... So many people read it so I thought I would give it a shot but was left utterly disappointed. After 16 chapters, I'm still trying to see what so many readers enjoy about this series!

@wako944: 16 chapters isn't even a fifth of the manga. You have to read at least a fifth to actually judge it. Besides, its not the only shounen that starts out slow at the beginning and then gets better, ie Rosario+Vampire and Negima.

Agreed!

Well I'm not sure if I agree with the original post juxtaposing Kekkaishi with FMA in 2007, lol, but I also only follow the manga. I watched maybe the first 2 episodes of the anime and it wasn't horrible but they changed certain things to maybe attract the mainstream audience and that's why I prefer the manga over the anime.

For anyone interested, here's a good review of Kekkaishi back when it was even more overlooked.
