Hey everybody. I have a pretty simple request. I am looking for a manga (preferably an adventure/action manga) where there are certification exams or tournaments. The closest manga to what i'm looking for is
Hunterxhunter - I really enjoyed the hunter exam arc. It required quick thinking rather than super powers and was all kinds of bizarre. There was a good variety of contestents, and a psychological feel, so i really enjoyed it.
Other manga that i have read that have tournaments and exams are Naruto (the chunin exam) and YuYu Hakusho (the dark tournament). In YYH there was a bit too much power-upping so i enjoyed it a bit less than the other two. I like manga, but anime is fine too.

Shaman King but it's kinda long and revolves around this "power-upping".
Also, I remember 07-Ghost having kind of an exam.
Yureka and 1/2 Prince got a tournament at some point (I put them together since they are kinda similar)
Id also got a tournament at some point.
Sekirei kinda fits as well, later on it becomes more like a tournament.

Prince of Tennis and its sequel are the only ones I can remember for now. Most of the sports related mangas must have tournaments though.

Kaiji fits if you can manage without action/adventure. It's a gambling manga.
but u'll need to watch the anime through the first arc since the manga is only scaned after that.

Hikaru No Go - Not action/adventure, but trust me, you won't be able to tell. It is that amazing.
Dragon Eye - It contains both. The exam is in the beginning, and the tournament is in the latest chapters that are out.
Futatsu no Spica - Same deal as with Hikaru no Go.
666Satan - It's kinda a mixture of Naruto and HunterXHunter, so I think you'll like it.
From Far Away I think? If I remember right, anyway.

Well, if you're going with the 'brains over brawn' concept, I'd have to say; Gambling Emperor Legend Zero is a pretty good choice.
I also second Kaiji and Liar Game.
There's also game and sports manga like Saki, Prince of Tennis, One Outs and Glaucos - but I'm not absolutely sure you'll enjoy those.
Edit -
I just found put that there are Tournament and Competition categories. Pretty much all the manga there fit your needs. You can always filter these two lists by action / adventure if you don't want manga on games and stuff like that.

Thanks for the recs so far Reading "From Far Away", i really enjoyed what was out of "Dragon Eye". I'll try some of the sports ones, but i'm not a huge fan of sports mangas. I've read some of Liar Game and i really like it too Also going to read law of ueki Looks like it has potential!
XD Haven't yet found anything that has the same epic exam/tournament feel as hunterxhunter, though. I've really come to appreciate that manga alot lately Keep them coming ^_^
