I'm looking for a romance manga in which the protagonist has to win the heart of someone who is still hung up on their "one true love," the greatest love of their life. How does the protagonist win against this great love? How does s/he become their second great love? It's difficult to win a heart that has already been given to someone else...

Any genre except shounen, ecchi or hentai is okay.

Some examples...

Winning the hearts of "widows/widowers" who are still in love with their deceased spouses, fiances or lovers: Is it okay to love you?, Yoru Cafe, Next Door Boyfriend, Bara no Tameni, Blue Ramun, Light and Shadow, Junjou Romantica (the Terrorist arc).

Winning the hearts of those who are still in love with an ex who is very much alive: Seven Days, Shitsuren Mania, Kaze Hikaru (arguably, not still in love but just traumatized by the break-up and unable to love anyone else).

Winning the hearts of those who are still in love with someone they never even confessed to (let alone had a relationship with!): Deep Love Virus, Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki, Koishi Tagari no Blue, Gokusen, Shibutani-kun Tomo no Kai.

Any more like these?

Thanks in advance!

You should check out the third story in Bus Hashiru (Wasurena Hill Bus Stop.) It is short and sweet.

I second this.

Try Bokura ga Ita.

Yokohama Monogatari
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Uno wins Shintaro's love while Ryusuke wins Mariko's. Mariko and Shintaro love each other in the beginning of the story, btw.

Falling in love again after the death of a lover:
The story "Nostalgia" in Ruriiro no Yume. A girl who was close friends with a young married couple as a child becomes the wife's lover after the husband's death.
Suna no Shiro. One of my absolute favorites. You will never see anything more ridiculously melodramatic.
A, A': The final three chapters. As a boy, Mori is in love with a female "Unicorn", who dies soon later. In the third story he meets and falls in love with another Unicorn whose gender is a little more complicated, apparently because of the resemblance between the two Unicorns.

Falling in love again after realizing the futility of an obsession:
Cardcaptor Sakura: Both Syaoran and Sakura have enormous crushes on Yukito, but later on they fall out of love with him and fall for each other. The whole falling-out-of-love thing is treated pretty well, especially in Sakura's case.
Oishii Kankei: Momoe is painfully in love with her taken boss, but later learns to love someone else.
Anata to Scandal: At the very end of the series, Tomoka realizes that her infatuation with the series's manly female wasn't "real" and that she was really in love with her childhood friend. It's a terrible ending, but it fits.
Marine Blue no Kaze ni Dakarete - Tachibana is all sad because her first love prefers her best friend. But luckily, she has a male cousin!
Lady!!: Lynn spends most of the series mooning over Arthur but does finally end up loving his brother, who is clearly much more into her.
Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Utena eventually discards her obsessive love for her "prince" in favor of Anthy.
