I'm at the chapter 60-70 range, and the chapters that've had the princess nude either had hair covering her breasts or some type of steam like in the bath. It seems like they're toning it down in the sex department as well. Not a sex scene in sight. Which is weird since it's such a stark contrast to the beginning chapters where you had sex and naked boobs left and right.

Well, the focus of the manga isn't sex and nudity. Sure there is fanservice, but if you just want to see those kind of things, this manga won't have them. The plot is more developed since the beginning, so it's more about wars and fighting now.

I know. It just doesn't feel as dark and mature any more. The point is, that it's like Berserk now. Berserk at first was dark, moody, dreary, visceral, and now Gutt's is romping around with a rag tag shounen party. This is what Ubel Blatt feels like now at least.

I lived it better when it had the nakedness and sex in the beginning combined with the violence as opposed to now. I liked that moody, dark, visceral, feeling that came with it made it seem more real and tangible.

thanks now someone who isn't blinded by that berserk bias that seems to blind so many people
glad i'm not the only one that think berserk is water down and so diluted to being not berserk at all (so much i dropped readin it some hundred chaps ago)
imagine a diluted whine even if i don't drink
but hopefully Ubell Blatt is as politicaly incorrect as it started but is less darker
i think the pressure of the publishers is to blame

Berserk has definitely toned down the "one man vs the world" attitude and the dark, depressing atmosphere to an atmosphere that just doesn't fit with the earlier volumes... I miss that darkness, all out gore and nudity in Berserk. I still think it's a good read but not nearly as good as it used to be.

It feels like Ubel Blatt is doing the exact same thing. Instead of sticking with the audience, Ubel Blatt seems to be trying to get a wider audience with less nudity and all that. Either way, I still love Ubel Blatt and I still love Berserk.

Ubel Blatt wasn't very "gritty" to begin with. While Koinzell is no knight in shining armor, its pretty clear from the first 20-30 chapters that he fits the "hero" part of the "antihero" label. Anyway, what's wrong with a character who DOESN'T want to murder a passing barmaid and dry hump her corpse for giggles? Thats more "batshit crazy" and "downright evil" than "realistic" or "mature",

If you're talking about general fanservice, well, there's no real shortage of that either, is there? The mangaka finds someway to shoehorn it in every few chapters or so. To the ridiculous point where charaters will have epic standoffs - while they were naked and in the bath. Sure, its more subtle than Koinzells "OK - SEX TIME!" antic in the first chapter or Altea's creepy desire to sleep with a boy who looks no older than 13-15, but its still there.

And here's the key point - the most blatant cases of nudity/fanservice only occur at the early chapters of the manga. Folks like you are supposed to be drawn in for the H-material, and then stay for the story. Although by the sheer fact that this topic exists, I'm guessing it din't work so well, huh?

IT'S BACK!!! MORE WEIRD, TWISTED NUDITY INCOMING... how many instances of group nudity and villains sexing through crowds have we had in the hundred-teen-th chapters?

...more than in the beginning, even. Heck, I think the tsundere installing that bath on the ship's bridge was meant to be not humor but *foreshadowing*. Lol.
