I'm aware that the shoujo category is infamous for its cliches, overly clumsy heroines, and maybe even male leads whose unhealthy obsession for the girl is covered up with the word 'love' and whatnot. But I believe that there are shoujo manga out there that are worth the try.

I've recently read the following (a bit lengthy ):
1. Motomi Kyousuke's works (Dengeki Daisy, Beast Master, Otokomae! Beads Club)

3. The Sleepy Residents of Birdcage Manor
4. Sora Log
5. Kiss/Hug

7. Kamisama Hajimemashita
8. Kimi ni Todoke
9. Ouran High School Host Club
10. Faster than a Kiss
11. Oresama Teacher
12. Devil and Her Love Song
13. Ai Hime - Ai to Himegoto

Well, I all thought these mangas were great and the characters were likeable and more or less, well-rounded. I'd reeeaaaally like to read some shoujo that has a nice plot and nice characters.

Can anyone suggest something not ecchi or hentai, released within the 21st century, has a nice plot and likeable characters? If you can, then thank you and may God bless you. ^.^

Angel Beats--best anime of the 2010 spring season

Akuma to Dolce and Karakuri Odette (same author as Hajimashite Kamisama)
Heart no Kuni no Alice is pretty good if you like harems.
I like the herione from Koucha Ouji
Magical JxR and Moon Boy are manhwa.
Nanaco Robin
Natsume Yuujinchou is beautifully written and different.
Sarasah is also a manhwa and I find it pretty interesting tough it starts off pretty typically.
Strobe Edge very good though it contains many typical shojo things.

I've finished reading Kimi no Sei, Nanaco Robin, and Akuma to Dolce and all were very great. I'm reading Otomen right now but I'm planning to read some of the titles you've suggested afterwards. Although I'm quite not sure if I'll read Heart no Kuni no Alice because last time I checked it was dropped.

Junai Tokkou Taichou!: The school's male and female delinquents fall for each other. My favorite shoujo!
High School Debut: High school romance! The girl is very loveable and the guy is so cool~
Love Celeb: Smutty but funny.
NG Life: The MU summary is really misleading but it's about a guy who looks for his long lost lover after he's reincarnated into a later life, except his lover is reincarnated into a boy instead of a girl. A really funny shoujo!
Switch Girl!!: A really funny shoujo where the girl is beautiful at school (ON mode), but "switches" into a disgusting slob at home (OFF mode). A guy who's the opposite (OFF at school and ON at home) sees her in both her modes.
Strobe Edge
Vampire Knight: Amazing artwork + hot guys and extremely interesting storyline.

I went on a shoujo rampage at one point, so I know soooo many that might fit what you want!

Game x Rush - A new discovery of mine- short and very bitter-sweet.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru - If you don't mind very light shounen-ai. (If you hate BL, though, sorry ^^)
