Does the 'Bakuman' title have any meaning? I don't speak Japanese (I can only see that the title is written in katakana) and it doesn't sound like any English word...

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, but the common and most plausible theory that I've heard so far (and personally believe will prove correct) is that Bakuman is a contraction of bakuhatsu manga or "explosive manga".

at the end of the second volume there was a note that baku comes from bakuhatsu (explosion), bakuchi (gamble) and a dream-eating creature '(also k nown as tapir) called Baku.
there was no statement about the "man" part until now but i think it´s a reference to manga and the man which is used for superhero names like superman and spiderman
