I think the movie can only be good if some serious adaptations to the characters/story is done. Offcourse if you're looking for a good movie instead of an exact live-action version of db(z). First I'd get rid of the standing-up/stiff hair & I'd minimize glowing effects. You can replace it's effect by perhaps adding a mini 'turbojet-like' sound to any powerups or something like that. Secondly I'd put in a little drama and give the movie a serious undertone; something close to horror. (Instead of the green been that pilaf is perhaps some greenish golem character). Well I'm just thinking out loud here. I'm also remebering 'Resident Evil: Extinct' [the movie] in whitch I was very pleased with the fact that even though the 'chick' had superpowers ~ they didn't realy overuse it... Ugh well anyway the director's got a though job 
That's not America's way. America has a reputation of butchering classics like Dragon Ball because they think being open-minded is a good thing (which it is, but obviously they go too far). They change the plot, refuse to use anybody but white or black actors as the lead, and simply do a horrible job imitating the wrong parts of the things the original considers "golden".
EDIT: Well, I don't necessarily have a problem with these kinds of things, it's just that if you're going to do it, do it right!

I think it would be better if they made goku a kid and not an adult. Cause the majority of Dragon Ball is when Goku was a kid. I still wonder how they're going to do Kinto'un though. xD
EDIT: I'm still gonna see this movie since I'm a huge fan of this series (I have been for 14 years now).

Third this. I'm so going to see this. And what's even more great that lots of people who don't even know manga/anime will see it too. xD Because I expect it to be heavily promoted. So~, if this will be a succes, manga/anime might become more well-known to the Western audiences. At least here, that is. Everyone's ignorant about manga/anime here. 
Plus there might be more manga/anime adaptions, though you gotta prepare for bad adaptions too then. ;-;

Nice...throw 100mill away on DBZ but not the Halo movie. Which would have been easier to make since the only real characters would have mostly been the Chief and Cortana; one who is CG and the other who never shows his face. Hell you could just have the game's voice actors do the lines (like they did with Darth Vader) which would have saved a crap load of money than hiring some big named actors to play the part.
Looks like since they've done a majority of the big superhero comics, Hollywood is now slowly movie to big, old, popular animes. Speed Racer and now Dragon Ball, what next?

Sadly we all will.
I can't wait to see how (badly) they'll handle the gravity-defying hair. Using a full CG movie like Advent Children would've been so much better *sigh*

Well, I am willing to bet that DBZ is just a scosh more popular and established, seeing as it has been one of the most popular anime in history, and has been in production and re release for almost thirty years.

I can agree with that, though I think it would have been even more interesting to do the movie with motion capture, like in Beowulf.

As much as I like Dragon Ball, the thought of a life action sort of scares me.
