Ok i was thinking of starting to read this manga, but is there any real romance in this or is it all just slapstick humor with every episode being somewhat of a filler like in To-LOVE-Ru - Trouble -
So basically what im asking is does the story go anywhere and is there any real romance like the main character actually liking someone back. Also i watched like 10 episodes of the anime and i couldn't really get into it. Will i like the manga any better?

im going to say at the beginning its not really related to romance, there are parts that explain hayate's past there are romance parts there and how it went on
the parts that tell about hayate's past are quite a ways into the story

HnG are very different than To-LOVE-Ru. While To-LOVE-Ru use ecchi as it's selling point, HnG use puns and gags related to mangas, animes, movies and current issues. For example:
You will encounter tons of gags like this in HnG, and even though there are romance here and there;

When Maria explains to Klaus about Hayate:
"He chased a car doing 80 km/h on a bicycle and caught up with it and got hit by it like he was trash and still fine,"
Which Klaus reacted with asking her:
"Maria... What kind of Gundam is that?

Such as the Hinagiku's birthday arc and Athena's arc
I don't think this is something for you if you are looking for something like Suzuka and Kimi no Iru Machi. But I still recommend it bcoz Tama-chan (my avatar and my signature) always makes me LOL and ROFL! ________________

No. From what I've read, the romance doesn't progress per se.

No progression in romance. N I don't think there'll ever be. I mean... the story is about Hayate's misfortune, not his success.

I don't know. Since you are into *heavy* romance mangas like Suzuka and KnIM, I don't think you will like HnG. Its romance progresses through certain arcs, which are seperated by dozens of chapters which contain only humor and some hints for the plot.
Oh and this series is quite different from To-LOVE-ru. At least it does not have poinless ecchi scenes)
Again with HnG, hope it won't end up like Detective Conan. This manga certainly has a plot, but it developes at a pace that makes people become impatient.
