Depends on the friends. I have a loose 'you tell, I tell' policy. If I know about their hobbies I'll tell them about mine. A lot more of my friends have gotten into it recently (without my external influence). Can't really be embarrassed by something that the majority of my friends have begun to do.

Well I don't know If embarrassed is really the word. I go to a Christian school now and I've told one or two people I read manga. But not really what I read, and if I did, I'm afraid they would be all jumpy on it. So I've refrained from telling anyone really anything about it. But at least their are other people who share the same hobby.

I don't go announcing it the world, but if a friend asks "do you read manga?" I'll answer honestly: "yeah, every now and then. I used to read more when I was younger."

I don't announce it, but I do cite things I've read from mangas now and then and if anyone asks, I would answer that I'm an avid manga reader. My friends don't care enough what I like and my hobbies, and it just doesn't influence our conversations.

I was really embarrassed about this hobby when I was younger, and then it just became a habit for me to not talk about it. Now I'm not sure wether I'm embarrassed or not, I just don't see the point in shouting about it either. If someone asks, I'll answer I guess.

Only my other nerd friends know...but I don't hide the K-Dramas, because I don't really find that something to hide. I watch those when there are hot male leads. For manga my close friends know, and only 3 know the extent. Anime isn't really hidden, but people have to really pay attention to me to figure it out.
And adding on, only 3 people in this world know about the yaoi (including my sister, who tells people I watch gay porn, the creep). I think I would lose friends if it was common knowledge...

My friends read manga and are all really nerdy, we also read a lot of books, if I was uncomfortable reading manga around my friends they wouldn't be my friends because that would mean we don't actually like each other for who we are.

I wasn't in high school but now that i'm in college...seems to me that when I say I read manga it is not clear to them that it is NOT animated (they think I watch naruto on tv -___-'' )
1. watch naruto nor read it...
2. there is story for older readers and they don't get it :C
so I don't talk about manga much...and when I talk about something I've read in a manga I say in a book or in a ''BD'' ( which means Comics)
I'm not ashamed, it is just anoying to explain the concept and my interesse in some manga...NOT NARUTO DAMN IT

I'm old (hint: on my eighth year of work now) and almost all of my friends do not read manga. While I do not deny the fact that I read manga, it's not something that I declare voluntarily. So I guess it's a 'yes'. Lol.

I'm not old, neither am I young though... but it is known to most of my friends that I'm quite childish and that I still let myself be engulf in things like manga and books and other stuff that you may find immature and weird... but I never hide it to any of them. In fact, my friends are actually forced to listen to all my ramblings about the newest manga I've read, so that's a definite NO.

Hmmm, maybe.... I just don‘t tell them that I read mangas, but I think they know that I watch anime...
I also don‘t let other people that I don‘t know, know that I read manga..

Nope. I've probably admitted other things that most would consider far more embarrassing than reading manga.
